Hello,

I'm new here and this is my first post.

I just picked up a 329pd mainly to take with me up in the mountains. I've heard that the easiest way to tame the recoil a little is to swap out the grips for some X-Frame grips. The 329pd sits on an N-Frame.

Problem is that on S&W sight I can only find X-Frame Impact Absorbing Hogue Square Butt Conversion Grips. The The 392pd is a round butt frame. Will the X-Frame square butt grips fit?

Thanks for your help in advance. I really appreciate it.

I often have to think twice on the verbiage but a Square Butt Conversion grip converts a round butt frame to a "pseudo" square butt grip shape, not the other way around.

All the X-frames have round butt grip frames.

I find Pachmayr's Diamond Pro grips give all the cushion I need with my 329PD.

329

I recently acquired a 329 PD with Pachmyr grips, i find it quite comfortable to shoot; took it out the other day ran 20 rounds through it. My 629 deluxe is somewhat less pleasant.

Does the X frame have the same size grip frame as the K/L?

Yes. Kind of counter intuitive but that's a commonality between them.

From the S&W web page that brjr51 provided a link to:

"Must Have Rounded Corners On Butt Of Frame. Models 10, 12, 13, 19, 64, 65, 66, 296, 386/PD, 396, 586, 617, 646, 648, 681, 686, 696, 460 and 500."

All K/L/X frames.

So, the 329pd, being based on the N frame, the above grips WONT fit, or at least not properly??

Thinking of trying a pair on a 629-6 myself, if they fit...

I don't see it listed but "Z" frame (Governor) also has RB K configuration, even though otherwise considered N frame.
For those shooting factory or hotter loads in the 329, do yourself a favor and get the X grips. My understanding is when new, they will work on even SB N's.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm probably going to give Pachmayr's Diamond Pro grips a try. More online digging has told me they work great and are also cheaper. I've found them at sportsman's for $20 or Amazon for $22.
