Finally, I am where I want to be with this nice little semi-auto.

Installed the XS RD3s in Green today. The factory rear sight was really pressure-locked in there but it eventually gave way. In the dark, these sights are everything you want them to be; in the light, the sight picture is MUCH better for me - YMMV. These sights on this gun are sweet! (No affiliation with XS sights).

Here are some down and dirty pictures:

Looks a great sight picture. Still want to see the view from the side.

I like the Tru-Glo set I cobbled together. The rear sight is a half circle and to me, it's easier and faster to pick up proper alignment.

For me, there are 2 basic types of sights for a serious pistol: U notch rear/big dot tritium front from XS, or a good low mounted RDS. That's what works best for my eyes. My G33 and Sig 239 have the XS, and my Wilson KZ9 has a custom Wilson rear w/u notch with XS tritium dot. My 4" PC Shield has a factory RDS and I have a chopped G 17 with an RDS.

Before purchasing the XS Sights and a sight pusher I decided to try adjusting the front sight to compensate for the 4” left POI.

The front sight sits about 0.020” to the right.

I bought a $6 punch from Ace Hardware, spent about 30 minutes grinding the tip to fit the side of the front sight with my Dremel tool…. My $6 RedNeck Sight Pusher..

I tapped on the sight about 10 times before it actually moved!

So, now I need to get back to the range and bench test it.

If it will put 5 rounds in a 3” circle at 4 and 7 yards in the A Zone, I’m good. If I can put 5 rounds in the C Zone at 15 yards, I’m good.

I prefer the XS Sights, but I want to practice with a couple hundred rounds with the factory sights.

I installed my XS sights yesterday. The sight pusher I ordered was a fail, and I used a hammer and punch. All I can say is wow! I went and shot about 30 rounds before locking down the sights with the thread locker just to see if it was on. I used Blazer JRN, some 68 grain XD handloads, and 6 Underwood standard pressure XD factory ammo. Most shooting was at 10 yards to 50 feet, all offhand. I had one close flyer, but I was able to keep the rest within or touching the lines of a 3"X5" head box of a FAST target, with the closer shots making one big hole. I couldn't do that at 10 yards with the stock sights.

One disappointment was that the rear sight was wiggling in the dovetail when I went to apply the thread locker. I see that as a potential point of failure. It also meant that I had to guestimate the position of the sight before locking it down.

If I can pick up the speed and do well enough on a qualification-style course of fire on a IDPA/USPSA target at 25 yards, this could become a carry gun. The gun certainly can do it. The rest is up to me.

Wow.. that's some mighty good shooting! :D

With my new sights, I've been able to consistantly hit 8" plates at 25 yards, just not as fast as with my IDPA/USPSA gun. I plan on running it in the BUG class this year. My split times out to 15 yards have gotten really good for such a small gun.

What ammo are you using to make the IDPA power factor in BUG? I can’t get close to it with any BUG sized .380. I was thinking about trying to download 9mm with 95 grain bullets in a Sig P365.

I'm shooting non-sanctioned club matches so we don't check, but I'm using Fiocchi 95 grain at 960 fps, which would give a power factor of just over 91. I know rules require a minimum of 95, but again it's a club match and I'm close.

Just for gits & shiggles on my next range day I'm going to try 25 yards with 3 or 4 of my handguns. On a typical indoor range day I set the paper between 4 and 7 yards for handguns.

Last year at the outdoor range I was sighting in a 9x scope on a rifle and at 50 yards the paper bullseye looked teeny-weeny. :D

Try using a USPSA/IDPA target as the distance increases. It will be a lot bigger than a traditional pistol bullseye or rifle sight-in target. It also is more relevant to self-defense.

I have used either of these, although I prefer the IDPA because of the position of the 8 inch circle:

I think they are bigger than the ones you linked. They also don't assign the highest point value to shooting around the stomach, and they don't have scoring rings visible from far away. You also should be able to find paper versions of these, which may work better at your range and save on shipping.

YMMV. The important part is to try new stuff to challenge yourself!

Sorry, the links are to Midway USA. I don't know why it says "Access Denied."
