Yes, I was in the Air Force. No, I was not a pilot.

Hi James Arthur60,I was in the Air Force from 1960-1964 and I proudly wear my USAF cap. The only comments I get are "Thank you for serving"
and then it opens the door for war stories as just this morning I met a former Marine who saw my hat as I saw his and we started talking. Like my wife has noticed is that no matter what branch of service when two GI's get together they find a lot to talk about.

Thank you for serving James,

Bob

I always have meetings like this especially in restaurants and at the gun shops. There's a bond that still remains no matter whether or not you've served with a particular person. The stories are priceless.

My ex's nephew was in the Navy stationed in Oklahoma City working on aircraft for the Navy. He's 6-6" with shoulders wide enough to land an aircraft on. Never fully understood how a sailor got landlocked and was so dang big. Always liked to tease him about being too big to hitch a ride on a submarine. I think he said he was on the water once during his time in the Navy.

Thanks to all who have and still do serve this country.

yep I was in the air force...nope I was not a pilot....I was an electronic surveillance spy (non-morse intercept operator) and a member of the usafss 6950 security squadron

I was first in the Army, Airborne Infantry.
People heard the word Airborne and asked, Oh, you were in the Air Force?

Then I was a crew chief on a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter.
People would hear crew chief and ask, oh, you were a pilot?

I also have a commercial helicopter (rotary wing) license, but I just shut up about it, because that gets them all confused.

I spent 8 years as an SP; walked around a bunch of planes, never rode in one. I don't think I've ever been asked what I flew or if I was a pilot.... Maybe I don't have that pilot look. :)

I was an SP too, 85-90. Minuteman Missile security Whiteman AFB and Tomahawk cruise missile GLCM security in Germany.
