Yeti coolers?

Since they are high theft items they should come with a GPS tracker so you can get it back....Yeti-LoJac :p

When a bunch of us would go up into Quebec we would put our frozen food in a cooler with one bag of dry ice. The food would remain frozen for about three days, enough time for us to get into camp. Using dry ice you also get no water in the cooler from melt.

If you drop a small amount of ice in the Yeti, say the day before or the morning before you load it, it will pre-cool the chest. I find that is the key for the Yeti working so well.

You all have convinced me, now I just have to convince my wife. I appreciate the tip about pre-cooling the cooler.

I have older models Igloo Marine coolers in 128 and 36 qt. Toss some frozen gel packs in overnight, then a couple of frozen half gal. or qt. frozen water jugs, 10 lb. bag ice fits into 3 1 gal. ZipLoc bags and good for 3 days in the south Fla. heat.

How do ya get this dry ice? Never seen any for sale. I know it exists... but "dry ice"... it just don't compute with me... sorta like fried ice cream.

Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide. It's colder than water ice and called 'dry' because when it melts it goes back to gas, leaving no liquid.
I can buy just down the road at Smiths Supermarket.
In many towns you can buy it at industrial suppliers like welding supply companies.

Both our local supermarket and Wal-Mart sell dry ice. IIRC, it is frozen carbon dioxide. Don't touch it with your bare hands!

Me- why in the world would you call your grocery store HEB?
Texas local- you might if your last name was Butt.

Dry ice is a solid form of carbon dioxide which will not melt, but it evaporates. If you do a Google search you will find out more about it. I usually buy it at truck stops.

Dry ice is sold at most grocery stores. Its either $0.99 or $1.99 per pound. Cant remember which. It will come wrapped in paper. DO NOT TOUCH WITH BARE SKIN. Instant frost bite if you do and the potential loss of skin and fingers. It cools about 4-6 times better than ice and leaves no melted water like regular ice. It sublimates (sp?) or basically evaporates from a solid direct to gas. Put a piece in a pan of water and you have your own smoke machine. The "smoke" will hug the floor and not rise. Most stores will not sell it to minors.

Why would you want to put a yeti in a cooler?

When you shoot one, they start to stink in just a few hours...
You should ice down the yeti pretty quick......

Sorry could not resist...

The older GOTT coolers and the newer Igloo Max Cold coolers keep ice near as good as the Yeti and the other "super coolers".

The advantages of the Yeti, and the other, what I call Super Coolers, is how strong they are, and how bear proof they are.

Sorry, but I put Yeti coolers in the same column as $100 dollar flashlights.
