Yeti coolers?

Qent to a shooting course two years back, middle of June in Bend, Oregon. Primitive range, no running water, only an outhouse. We camped on sight for two days.

I had loaded the cooler, added ice, then the day we went to the range, topped it off with fresh ice, after draining out the water.

At the end of day #2 in 100+ heat, we still had COLD water.

Like any of these threads, this will turn into a "Why spend the money, my coleman is just as good, etc".

I am sold on the YETI's . I think they ARE better.

They are wonderful and I want one. Told the wife that they can keep ice for 9 days and are bear proof. She replied that 1-there ain't no bears in the fishing boat and 2-I ain't never been on a 9 day fishing trip in my life.
She's got me on both counts

I am convinced that the Yeti's are worth the money. My old ice chests never held up and ended up nasty looking. The Yeti holds ice way longer and looks nice after years of use.
I speak from experience and I do own 7 Yeti's now (+ still have some Smith & Wesson money left).

Why would you want to put a yeti in a cooler?

I was recently explaining to a group of 10 year olds the concept of "crank calling."

"Do you have Prince Albert in a can?"
"Yes."
"WELL LET HIM OUT!"

"Is your refrigator running?"
"Yes."
"WELL YOU BETTER GO CATCH IT!"

"Your pigs are in our garden."
"I don't have any pigs."
"I DON'T HAVE A GARDEN EITHER!"

I see a new one:

"Do you have Yeti's in a Cooler?"
"Yes have Yeti Coolers."
"WELL LET HIM OUT."

The 10 year olds thought it was stupid too.

As far as cleaning the white inside of a cooler. I use Westley's White Wall Cleaner and it does a great job. It is good on patio furniture also.

I pulled up my best buddy's house last night and I saw that his YETI was sitting out drying. His dog was barking and he came running out and said: "Oh, Ok its you". I said , "Yeah just me".

He said "I thought someone was stealing my Yeti" I said "Ya know, I bet 25 years ago you would have never thought you would ever have said those words, especially with us living in Florida".

He paused till it sank in and said "Yup" and we went in his house to work on deer rifles and scopes.

He did serve me Paddelford over cracked ice in a new YETI Cup, something I had not seen yeti. He said "It cost 35.00 and is suppose to keep your drink cold for 18 hours". I said "Why". He said "Dam if I know, my drink will be gone way before that"

That was a good, simple evening.

By the way, just to keep within the limits of thread drift, He loves the YETI cooler and thinks it was money well spent

I started to buy one... some time ago. But the bank never would approve the second mortgage.

I've looked at them often and heard good things about them, but by the time you add ice and fish they are too heavy for me! I've got a freezer at the fishing camp and make block ice in plastic containers, my Igloos keep it for a day or so just fine.

If you do decide to spend $200+ on a cooler, buy a Yeti (or Pelican) and NOT one of the cheaper copycat clones from one of the big sporting goods retailers. When your copycat cracks, etc you will be out of luck. A Yeti is like buying a Pelican case. Repaired or replaced with no hassles.

There was a guy on my job a while back who had one chained to the bed of his truck. He was showing it off to us and bragging on it immensely. It looked like a pretty big cooler, but when he opened it up, there was barely room for a six pack in it. I guess the walls were about 3-4" thick!

I think I'd just buy a refrigerator.

I'm just outside of B.R.
I don't have a 105. The largest I have is the 75. I have two of them. For outside parties I thought I'd rather have the two 75qt rather than one larger one. Easier to separate drinks and able to offer drinks in two locations around the pool and patio.

I purchased one today at the new Cabela's store in Tualatin. (Oregon). I have wanted one for a long time, and I got the Tundra 45 Marine in Lt./Blue. A couple of my bud's have Yeti's and swear by them..........

In my metaphysical period I spent time in the himalayas and a Yeti was a friend and spiritual advisor.
I asked him if all Yeti's were so wise.
He thought and said "yes, except for the american cousins who like to keep beer cold with the lid open."
Then advised that there was one in South Louisiana who wanted to keep one open for nine days and expected it to be cold. Of course he is a lawyer--so that goes a long way in understanding him.

In real world tests I've seen they do somewhat better than less expensive coolers, but in my mind not enough to justify the expense unless you are going to be away from an ice source for days at a time. They are certainly stout.

The people that I know that have them are out in boats for 3-4 days at a time and truly need to keep a lot of fish fresh in hot weather. Unless you're going to be away from an ice source for a long time, you can feed another cooler a whole lot of ice for the price of the Yeti.

I've seen good reviews, with practical real world testing of coolers. They're out there with a little searching.

Regardless of the true practicality of the Yeti for most purposes, there is certainly a degree of pleasure in owning something as well made and overbuilt as they are.

Why would you want to put a yeti in a cooler?

Off-hand, it costs our daughter $35.00 to have her Maltese groomed. A Yeti is much larger and considerably more dangerous, the groomer would charge out the rear end to trim a Yeti.
