So I had been asking Ted Yost when he was going to do a revolver run because I had a 13-3 3" I wanted to send him. I have always considered the 13 3" to be one of the best conceal carry revolvers. There was a reason the FBI carried them. Ted kept reminding me he is neck deep in 1911s and BHPs so he said it might be a while if ever. He likes to remind me he is not going to work forever. Well he and I were talking about my soon to be completed 1911 and he mentioned he got some guns from an estate and I asked if there were any revolvers in there. I struck gold and there was a 13-3 3". Ted said he does not believe it was shot much if at all since it left him. He of course looked it over before he sent it out and all I can say is it looks amazing. This will complete my Yost Trio. A BHP, a Colt 1911 and a S&w 13-3 3" Revolver. So here it is in all its glory.

The build sheet reads like this:

  • Complete action job, including all new springs & oversized hand
  • Polish and round the trigger face
  • Add hard overtravel stop to trigger and adjust
  • Bob hammer spur
  • Install Yost proprietary rear sight
  • Yost 24K Gold line front sight, ramped and serrated @ 75 LPI
  • Set back barrel 1 turn, re-establish proper gap
  • Recrown barrel
  • Chamfer chamber openings
  • Number chambers
  • Bevel cylinder front and rear
  • Dehorn all sharp edges
  • Zero gun with .357 Mag 125gr JHP & .38 Special +P 125gr JHP
  • Finish complete revolver in satin blue
  • Hand fit Spegel English Walnut grips finished in hand rubbed oil.

Struck gold and then some. I didn’t think a “like” was sufficient for my admiration of that revolver. Truly a well thought out and practical working piece of art. Congratulations and thanks for posting.

Thank you for the compliments. I will add that none of them are safe queens. The BHP is my favorite 9mm platform and this one is on the top of the heap and it is not the only custom in the group.

They all get shot and even see time in the holster on the belt. If I bang them up I can always send it back to Ted for a refresh.

Pretty cool when someone like Yost or another well known gun maker/customizer actually increases the value of a gun when they work on it.
Nice job!

Just to possibly aid in the draw, or at least not be sharp against your body, since this is the type of weapon you might carry inside your waistband. I am pretty critical of "custom gun" add ons , usually I see most of them as not needed, or just a way for the smith the charge more. Although I also believe its your money so do what you want.

BUT in this case I see this smith (YOST) as someone who takes pride in his work and wants his product to reflect that. I would gladly pay the total bill for that type gun. Those sights are awesome and practical. The rest of the work is beautiful , nice as any BBQ gun to me.
I know there are a couple Yost, I have installed several of his sights on my and others guns. Is he the same as the Yost who was or is at the PC. I don't think so but just wondering. Both 13s are very nice. Makes me want to do something to mine , but probably not at this late stage.

Ted Yost current owns and runs Estate Sporting Limited. He was one of the smiths at Precision Heirloom along with Jason Burton. Prior to that he was part of Yost-Bontiz. He cut his teeth as the in house smith at Gunsite. Many in the 1911 world consider him the GOAT. I certainly believe he is one of the top 1911s smiths doing work today. I personally love his aesthetic.

Here is his bio Ted Yost | Classically Trained World-class Gunsmith

He is IMHO the best BHP smith I have ever worked with and I have 5 BHPs from Don Williams, a Garthwaite, a Novak, a Cogan and a Jim West custom. Don is a very close second.
