You have a beautiful carry gun but what happens to it if you have to use it?

This is exactly why I carry a truck gun as my EDC, worn on the outside but pristine on the inside, accurate and yet easily replaced if nessassary...

Real Life.....
My daughter used her's to stop an armed robber from executing her self and 3 fellow employees at her place of business. He had the money, then told them to face the wall and kneel down . Around here they don't like to leave any witnesses to testify at a trial. She said she wasn't going to let him do that .
Police took her gun as evidence. After the first trial , the appeals started, several new trials , more appeals case working up the ladder in appeals courts, etc, etc, etc. Now several years have gone by.
After criminal case, civil case (she shot but didn't kill him) more years go buy....no suit ever gets dismissed...everything must be held as evidence , criminals have their RIGHTS !
Seven or eight years have gone by....she tries to recover her gun.....is told it has been "misplaced"...SORRY !
The criminal has all the rights, you will likely loose you weapon.
DO NOT carry anything you will miss or that is not easily replaceable...not in Louisiana anyway.
True story , I was a witness.

It is just a crying shame that the dirt bag didn't get his rights between the eyes or center mass. Some folks just don't deserve to have rights. But in this screwed up PC world I feel your pain Brother. Hang in there, and praise your Daughter evertime you can.

Where I live, it is the policy of the Prosecutor's Office that any gun involved in any death, justified, suicide, whatever is held for 75years. Have to make sure it is specifically mentioned by s/n in wills for at least 2, maybe 3 generations.

That said monetary value per se should be of minor importance , within any vaguely usual context. Carry what is effective, and you shoot well. Think twice about family heirlooms, or very rare and irreplacable.
That just sounds wrong for some reason. To bad the prosecutor couldn't be voted out of office and replace with someone with common sense, go figure.

Glad to see this thread is still going. And a wide range of comments. I am firmly on the side of carry what you trust, is reliable, and you like to shoot. So, I carry my Ted Yost prepped Delta Elite nearly every day. It would suck to lose it, but if I have had to use it for it to get taken for awhile at least I will know it did its intended purpose. For me that is the bottom line.

Beauty or Beast?

As a collector I have some guns that I would never carry on a daily basis. Holster wear is more of a concern than confiscation as I look at the odds of actually having to use one in a self defense situation.

My carry guns are a 340PD AirLite which is expensive but replaceable and a 4040PD AirLite, also expensive but harder to replace. Just the magazines I carry for it are worth more than a new M&P or Glock. Lately I've been considering getting a M&P for carry as I'd hate to lose the 4040 to an evidence locker.

I also have a 3914LS that is identical in form and function to the 4040 but much easier to replace, so I carry that more often. If I feel the need for .40 power and bullet weight (.40 165gr vs 9mm 115gr Critical Defense) I can carry my 411 especially now that the Season allows better cover garments.

My pristine low serial number Shorty Forty stays at home in the safe, as does my very nice model 59 and a 3913NL that BMCM refinished for me and I want to keep free of holster wear.

I don't like to carry flashy weapons, and black goes with everything, so my stainless guns are pretty much range guns.

I shoot a government model 1911 best, so that is what I carry. I have six Colts and one Dan Wesson Valor. I can be in six justifiable shootings before I have to start worrying.

EDC

After much thought I have decided to find M&P compact or shield with an appropriate CCW holster rather that risk giving up my 4040PD Airweight. The possibility of not finding another 4040PD is more concern than the monetary value. Of course my 4014 single stack might make a good substitute.
