You Have a Grizzly 20 Yards Out...

My profile says Metro Cleveland.. That means SUBURBS..

Ya, I doubt any of the nearby murderers can drive very far. :D

In 2021 my state had 2 fatal grizzly attacks, while people committed 46 homicides. Most of the homicides were committed in towns and suburbs. Heck the largest city in Montana only has 100,000 people. probably about the size of your "suburb"

I sleep better where there are fewer people and more bears. Lot safer there.

Well which one can you best use to shoot your girlfriend's knee, before she shoots you in the leg?

Survival of the quickest!!!!! :)

Good plan. The loud noise scares off the bears and you are left with your mangled for life GF who's having a medical emergency. Now what?

We live in a similar setting,,
more bears, fewer people,, on our 40 acres,,

BUT,, we moved here over 40 years ago,
for the first 35 years, we never even saw a bear,,

NOW, the bears shred our fruit trees each year, trees that have been growing for 35+ years with no bear climbing them.

I am convinced that the "city" bears are being captured, and "RELEASED" out in the "wilderness" where we live.

There was a story on the local news last week about a bear with three cubs going house to house, scrounging whatever they could find to eat.

The bear was tranquilized, and put in a wheeled "culvert pipe trap".
They said the bear was not killed,, so, what exactly did they do with that bear??
I think they released the bear in the national forest,,,

The reason I feel this way is the actions of the bears.
The "recent" bears selectively go after pizza boxes.

They have developed a taste for pizza,,,
My SIL lives next door (on his 40 acres)
He has learned not to put pizza boxes in the trash, the bears will come for the boxes.

Pretty much, without the pizza boxes, the bears leave the trash alone.
One exception to that,, which my SIL's family has outgrown,,
The bears LOVE to go after children's dirty diapers,, Go figure on that one.

My daughter, and SIL have 4 children under the age of 12.
There WILL be pizza boxes,,

I fixed the bear in the trash issue,,
My daughter calls it the "Bear Box",, I like the name.

It took me about two hours to put the lid on the steel box, and paint it.
She loves it,, my SIL LOVES not picking up the bear spread trash.

it has a spring counterweight to assist lifting the lid.
The youngest child can put the trash in the Bear Box,,,

A forest ranger said one of the problems with bear proof trash receptacles is there is a lot of overlap between the dumbest people and the smartest bears. :D

They say a bear can smell way better than any dog. I kind of suspect that pizza boxes just flat smell good to bears. I have a couple big metal job boxes that I use for food storage. But, mostly just to keep the forest service happy. A bear can easily smell the food in the box and be attracted to it. Biggest problem around here is they have figured out hunting season, gun shots and gut piles. Some call them dinner bell bears. More worried dressing and loading up a kill than I am in camp.

Between the coyotes, wolves, bears, eagles and crows the gut piles don't last long. But, it isn't a bad idea to keep an eye on them to know what is in the area near them.

A friend of mine here in Montana is a professional guide and his choice is.....................his M1 Garand. As an old service rifle competitor I can assure you he can dump 8 and reload for another VERY quickly....
