Your 4" N frames

I have another N-frame but somehow it lost 1/2" of bbl. so it doesn't qualify for this thread.

See, NOT qualified!

Yes, my M57 4 inch barrel is actually 3 15/16th and the M629ND is 4 1/8th. Side by side they look rather funny.

Have you ever come across an explanation for that?

I've got a pair of 4" 29-2's with a slight difference in barrel lengths, similar to what you describe.

No explanation that I know of. Perhaps it is the Monday-Friday syndrome that you hear of in the auto industry. I always heard that you don't want a car that was built on Mon or Fri. We may never know.

I'm a poor boy and never cared about such things. I've been into S&Ws for over fifty years. I mean it's steel not gold?

Hello,
First timer here.
I have a .357 Model 27-2 made in 1965 I believe. 4" barrel.
It was given to me by my Father-in-law some years back before he passed away.
I have never fired it yet.
A while back I was looking at it and noticed what I thought twas a crack in the frame. I joined this forum today to find out if the gun was ruined but when I look at all these pictures of other "N" frames, I see the same crack in the same place except mine looks a little rougher.
What is this? Is it safe to shoot this gun?
Thanks

zulu 1952, Nice gun, I don't see anything wrong with it but, looks like a 5"er to me?

Thanks for the reply.
If I measure from the front of the cylinder to the end of the barrel, it is a 5" barrel. Thanks!
What is that line in the frame between the hammer and the cylinder that I thought was a crack?

Those are some tough acts to follow...
My model 29-2 with Keith Brown grips, the revolver was a gift from my wife some years ago. The grips were a gift from me from the last SWCA Symposium.

Regards,
turnerriver

Looks like you made it easy to follow. ;)

Remembering back the only 29s I have ever shot were 4"ers. Both of them. :D

Since I doubt if anyone ever does a thread entitled "Your 4.5" N frames", and since these are close to 4", I will add a few quick pictures of an identical matched pair of first year 4.5" consecutive Reg# RM's (Reg# 447/448) that I just picked up. 100% original as they left the factory in August 1935 with 4.5" barrels, McGivern Gold Bead front sights, U-notch rear sights, and matching service style stocks. …

Lester gave me the perfect opportunity to post this revolver. Neither 4" nor 4.5" but a 4 1/4" Model 25-2. Factory? Nope, a custom job I had built from a 3 1/2" butcher job.
