Your Family

This was our daughter's cat, one of a few, that she has had through the years. Taffy was a real sweetheart...
Dare I risk raising the ire of the many dog owners here by mis-quoting Will Rogers?
"If there are no cats in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went"
(Of course, we all KNOW there will be both in heaven.)

I'll step out and express a dissenting opinion.....
Good points and I agree on many of them. (BTW, "ankle biters", is also a British slang term for small children, and not w/o good cause in some cases )

You're probably not too keen on the current fad for exotic "support animals", either. Some of the stories of what people have tried to bring on airplanes under this category are simply unreal. I think a peacock was one.

Yeah, BTDT.... My gf has a "big kitty", too. Oh, wait...
There HAS to be an interesting back story to yours

We had a sign by the door that said "These premises protected by an attack cat" which people who didn't know us thought was funny. It wasn't really a joke as Dandy did not like strangers.

After losing Ranger (see my avatar) I didn't think my heart could stand another dog. "Arlo" came after much research into breed health and longevity. Chocolate lab boy. Can't figure how to post pics so take my word for it he's too adorable and steals hearts.

It always takes time to come to terms with losing a Best Friend. It's extremely difficult, and each of us has to deal with the loss in our own way and in our own time.

It isn't a decision to be taken lightly or to be made hurriedly. I'm confident you made the right decision at the right time. I have no doubt Arlo would agree!

Your dog Arlo is a Beautiful Boy, a Handsome Pup if there ever was one...a dog who will fulfill the promise of love and fun that I see in his eyes. I hope you have many years of love and friendship and fun together.

Here are your photographs of Arlo.

So many pics and stories to "like" here. I've had cats for 20 + years but am down to just one. He was a rescue in 2015.

This pic (and I have dozens) is from when he was about 7 mos., but he's pretty much the same now only bigger.

That's a good looking cat! There's just something about black cats that appeals to me. Gotta love the way those eyes stand out in the midst of all that black! There's often sort of a stigma attached to them. Black cats in shelters are said to be harder to get adopted out (ditto for black dogs).

In your case, you were in the right place at the right time. I think you and Smudge are fortunate to have found each other. Wishing you both a long and happy life together.

Growing up with livestock animals were never family members. I have had some dogs I cared a lot about and some cats I tolerated but nothing but human family members. The humans have tried my love and patience enough at times that I am OK with that.

:):):)

Yup. Black cats have had a lot of bad press. And they seem to have a persona all their own. The couple next door have a similar cat and he's very much like Smudge.

I just remembered this pic, taken just after I adopted him, a couple of weeks after he bailed out of the 40' tree sans parachute  He was a few days short of 4 mos. (He now weighs about 12 lbs. Still far short of my gf's two 23-pounders, though.)

The caption came to me after he took a playful swipe at me and it reminded me of the old Coke ad. He's used those claws to good effect on not a few field mice and moles since.
