What are your favorite movies & shows with realistic gun usage? The movie itself could be horrible, but at least the guns themselves, tactics, or use was well done...

A few of mine are Appaloosa, The Way of the Gun, HEAT, most of Tom Selleck's movies, The Ghost & the Darkness, Lone Survivor, The Kingdom...

"Boardwalk Empire".

In five seasons set between 1919 and 1931, they only screwed up on period handguns a few times. And there were a LOT of period handguns in that show. At one point they even showed a Savage 1907. I mean, when do you ever see a Savage handgun in a movie or show? And the staging of shoot-outs was generally well-done, too. Realistic? Well...

SPOILER ALERT End of season 3

Way of the Gun for sure. Can handles his revolver like a seasoned pro. Same with the 1911 action, with the exception they were using 9mm models and calling them .45. I'm guessing 9mm blanks are easier to come by.

I really enjoyed the team tactics and room clearing they did in the Way of the Gun. They reloaded, had pretty good muzzle and trigger finger discipline, and the wound effects were fairly realistic as well! It was hard to care for any of the characters since all of them were jerks... But it sure was fun to watch!

The movie DEATH HUNT. Based VERY loosely on a true story about the Mad Trapper from Rat River. What I liked about it was the wide variety of guns used by the civilians. Charles Bronson used the same guns as the original trapper used. A Savage 1899 in 30-30. What I felt was unreal was the Mounties used a wide variety of guns as well. The Mounties used very specific uniform guns and still do, not a hodge podge of guns.

"The Silence of the Lambs". The gunfight between Spcl. Agent Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) and the murderer was the most realistic that I think I've seen on film.

She had the issue FBI gun of that time, a S&W M-13. The bad guy had a Python, as in the book.

Guns carried by other agents also seemed realistic choices.

Did anyone else here catch the Browning Hi-Power used by the African terrorist on, Hawaii Five-0 a week or two ago? Logical choice for him, and the first Browning I've seen on film in a long time.

The guns and a binocular in, "Out of Africa" were also pretty well chosen. Someone already mentioned, "The Ghost and the Darkness." Not a bad movie, despite Michael Douglas as an unnecessary character named Remington.

A Savage 1907 is in Road to Perdition with Tom Hanks, also not a bad gun movie. Don't see it on TV much though. Then there's The Wild Bunch, the main problems being the guy carrying a M1903A3 in 1916, also a M1917 water-cooled MG (it should have been a M1904).

Last Man Standing... with Bruce Willis. I think it is one of the best Colt 1911 movies around. The movie is a two-handed shoot-em-up from start to finish... with reloads galore. Actually, LMS is a remake of an acclaimed Japanese movie, Yojimbo, by the great director Akira Kurosawa. BTW... another remake of Yojimbo... is Sergio Leone's first spaghetti western, A Fistful of Dollars.
