OK---so I want to ask a serious question in a silly way, just so we can keep this politically correct:

If an alien spaceship landed on your house and you and your family had to flee your home and run for your lives, which TWO guns from your EXISTING collection would you take with you as defense against both the invaders and the panic stricken lawless mobs?

My own choices would be: My S&W M&P .45 semi-auto, and my Remington 870 Express 12 gauge pump shotgun.

Footnote: I broke a couple of ribs the other day and have been pretty much home bound. I am slowly working my way through my DVD collection---yesterday I watched War of the Worlds. I admittedly have waaaay too much time on my hands, but I found myself asking the question: Chris, what would you do??? Work with me here guys!

Can't do two. Have two long guns hanging inside of closet doorways which would go. And a handgun gets picked up and put on the belt so I don't need hands for it.

The long guns are a modified SAR-2 with folding stock and lots of 30 round 5.45 mags, and an FN SLP 12 gauge auto. The handgun of choice today would probably be an HK45. I've had my HK45 for nearly a year now and I still can't get over what a nice gun it really is. The SAR-2 gives you medium range firepower. The SLP gives you overwhelming close range power with buckshot. That shotgun cycles full power buckshot so fast that you can have multiple hulls in the air at once. Really hammer something up close.

Got to do thee guns too.

M1 rifle, Winchester Model 12 shotgun, and Smith & Wesson Model 10 will be going out the door with me.

590 mossberg tactical version 9 shot w/Knox recoil reducing adjustable stock and for a handgun would be Glock 22 w/9mm conversion barrel so that I could use my 33 round 9 mm mags.

For whatever reason ,we seem to like to discuss the s.h.t.f. scenario occasionally.
And ,being responsible gun owners and probably a tad paranoid, we consider which pistol and long gun we would run to the hills with.

I have a Kimber BP Ten II that I have tuned and set up for IPSC and IDPA. It is 99% reliable, and I would feel comfortable with 6 15 round magazines in my belt.

This for close in work out to 50 yards.

My second choice would be my 460 XVR, as it shoots well out to 100 yds, and would be suitable for large game.

I like the other couple of folks above wouldn't do with 2. The Baretta 1201 auto 12 GA would get the nod, as well as the 416 Weatherby, remember Tremors? The pistols would be the ol' 4003 and the CS40. Technically I would only be grabbing 2, the other 2 are constant companions.

Cheers,
Sam

Well there would probably be three. Wife would grab her Springfield Armory LWT Champion and I would grab the 870 and the Sig 229 on my side of the bed.

However, with all the ammo I have stockpiled along with reloading components I think I would be more inclined to hole up in the house and take my chances.

Why do we assume that all aliens are hostile. These might be friendly aliens. Perhaps interstellar refugees seeking asylum from a Government that limits their religious practices as well as their free speech. Perhaps they object to taxation without representation and are looking for a new start.

However, should society break down into chaos, I would not run from my home. I am much better off staying and defending it.

After all that is where the spare ammo is. That is where the food and water are. That is where my generator is. That is where my communications equipment is. I see no need to head for parts unknown.

I think it was Robert Heinlein ("Glory Road"?) who said that everyone should have to run for their life at least once.

Personally I am a lot less worried about aliens, zombies, et al than secular messiahs with the power of government behind them.

Model 29-2 classic hunter and either Remington model 11 with 20 inch cylinder bore barrel or Marlin 1895 .45-70.

That's a tough decision, but one I need to come to terms with sooner than later. Unless on fire, I would be better off sitting tight. I would likely die playing INIMINIMINIMO.
