your 'run for your life' guns

Since I have to grap and run:

M4 Bushmaster and as many mags as possible.
629 3 inch in holster.
3rd if allowed Ithica Model 37 riot gun.

Reliability: Any of my pieces will do: Model 66 4" and a 12 gauge pump or my Kimber .45
Ammo: Stick with whatever is easily obtainable down the road: .38/.357/9mm/.45 ACP/12 gauge.
Transport: Wife to carry her Model 442 and her Smith .22 with a pocket full of rounds.

If the aliens land on my house why in the world would I run? I'm already here....

S&W M49 (always on me). If time permitted I'd grab a Winchester M12 with 7 rounds and a pistol/revolver depending on which room I'm in when they land.

After taking most of the morning to read through this entire thread AND try to work (ha ha), I would offer this observation, especially in light if the fact that I'm an older duck. If I HAVE to run anywhere on a bug out basis it's all over anyway. If on foot weight is everything on you! A revolver/rifle that can use the same cartridge and be used for hunting as well as defense makes sense to me. Given that scenario I would choose my Ruger Super Single Six and my Marlin Golden Mountie carbine, scoped and with a military style sling, both in .22 cal. Now if I get to load up the suburban I'd take my Benelli M2 12 gauge, the scoped Remington 700 SPS 308, both with slings, and the S&W M66. If it were to get really primitive I'd grab my flintlock 20 gauge/62 cal smooth bore and all it's fixins' and blend into the woods quiet like. A good smooth bore can shoot ball, buck, shot, rocks, sticks, etc... It is a case where sticks and stone WILL break your bones... Just a coupla thoughts.

Hesitant to say that I've actually given this alot of thought.

Been reloading for a few years and have compiled an acceptable amount of .223 and 45 ACP.

I know my Ruger SR-556 and Benchmade knife. These are 100% going with me. For a side arm with my ammo pile I'd have to take the Springfield XD-45 although my Ruger P95 would be considered.

Asia is also coming.

It all hinges on how much time you have to respond and what is at hand.

I have had this experience...not with aliens, but still a necessity to react instantly, finding myself in the wee hours clutching my 870 wearing nothing but my boots w/ no socks, briefs, no shirt and a camo jacket hiding in the brush trying to quietly catch my breath after sprinting a fifth of a mile.

Presently I only keep two guns outside of my gunsafe. For the last few years it has been a 16" Taurus stainless .22 magnum pump rifle w/ an attached Surefire and a 642 or a Keltec P3AT.

If instant flight were required these items are probably what I would end up with.

Two guns? If I had some time to prepare I would probably choose my 4.7 pound Keltec SU16C (w/4-20 round magazines) and my three inch model 60 (with 40 rounds on tough strips.)

If the flight is prolonged enough you will probably end up walking when you started out in a car.....regularly the roads are a parking lot just due to rush hour, accidents and construction. In the event of a full scale fearful mass evacuation I envision everyone running out of gas while idling in gridlock.

Food, water, minimal outdoor camp gear would need to be carried. Some individuals have outlined the desire to carry full sized rifles in tandem with shotguns and full sized handguns and the appurtenant ammunition. I just can't see myself carrying all of that weight.

Colt 1911 Series 70 made in 1978. I have a pillow case of magazines for it. How many is that? I don't know, it's how ever many filled up a king size pillow case.

The stuff that the grays wear reacts and stops energy weapons and supersonic projectiles, sub sonic projectiles on the other hand work fine. Hence the good old .45 FMJ at 835 fps works relatively well.

I actually live on a Marine base. The recruits sleep with their rifles are literally across the street. I have about a hundred loaded AR mags that I keep laying around, but I guess those can just be handed out as party favors for the welcome wagon.

I don't need a second gun, I need my other hand free to hold my bourbon while I shoot at the aliens. Such events call for breaking out the war emergency one liter jugs of Old Crow. Always fit to put a man in fighting mood.

Sir, if that ain't a signature line, I don't know what is. :D

I once had a similar experience; in my case I was stalking my foe through the snow in the early morning hours with nothing between my nakedness and the elements but a bathrobe on my body and a pair of Crocs on my feet. The gun I grabbed while running out the door was my Henry .22 with a red dot sight mounted.

No aliens there, either, but an elusive feral tom cat that had been terrorizing the place. ;)

Colt stainless lightweight Commander in .45 ACP. Same gun I carry every day now.

I'd swap the department's Colt M-16 for my own IMBEL FAL-type rifle. .308 Winchester/7.62x51, "para" folding stock, Q.D. scope mount, a dozen aluminum 20 round magazines full of AP. Semiauto .308 would seem preferable to full auto .223 gopher rounds unless them aliens are a lot smaller than us and very furry...

And a good, sharp, small skinning knife for if them aliens are at all tasty. And a good can of Lawry's Seasoning Salt to make them more so.

Excellent choice. In that highly unlikely situation, I, too, would take the Free World's right arm, only mine is Belgian and doesn't fold, not that I don't sometimes wish it did. I would also take my EDC 2" Model 15, a Centennial backup, and my H&R USRA pistol, because it has considerable sentimental value. I don't think that anyone who objects to my taking more than two would be any greater threat than the ones originally hypothesized.

I am grateful most of my night time disturbances have been similar to yours.

That one two legged predation experience (circa 1980) taught me to be better prepared. I sleep in dark pajama bottoms and dark T-shirts...even in the summer months.
That aforementioned camo jacket resides in the far right hand side of my closet, pockets stuffed with a flashlight, knife, dark ball cap (my now gray hair shows in the moonlight), gloves and spare ammo for the rifle also secured in the closet. On the floor beneath the jacket are a pair of slip on boots.

It is not paranoia, just preparedness.
