Your thoughts on self check outs?

Tried the self check out, prefer not to. Always use the cashier at Walmart and Supermarket. It provides needed jobs in this area.

Also insist on using cashiers at bank. They gave up on sending me cash cards, and the nice ladies always smile and say hello, then hand me money and a lollipop.

Invented new guaranteed way of speeding up checkout at walmart. It's called cash money, and substantially quicker. And no, you can't have my zip code unless you pay me.

If I was in that much of a hurry, would be there already.

There should be some kind of price incentive for people that use the self checkout. Using the self checkout and paying the same price is working for free. When the regular checkout lanes are backed up customers should demand that more lanes are opened and if management refuses just leave the loaded carts. Larry

I have been known to yell out "how about opening more checkout lanes" when the lines get rather long. My wife wants to hide when I do that.:D

I despise shopping. My only goal is to get out of there as quickly as possible. For places like Walmart, that usually means using the self checkout, so that's what I do. Maybe I should care if that results in fewer people having jobs at Walmart, but I simply don't. Does anyone out there lose sleep over all the people who made buggy whips and lost their jobs when horseless carriages came along? Maybe I should be concerned about "doing a job" and not getting paid for it, but I'm a big boy and there have been lots of "jobs" in my life that I did without pay. I got over it.

At the supermarket, I find that folks usually screw up their transactions at the self checkout, especially if they have lots of produce items, and that holds things up, so I avoid them unless there's nobody in front of me. I also don't mind bagging my own groceries - in fact, prefer to because then I know it's going to get done right. Nothing annoys me more than someone who stands there like a dope watching their groceries pile up on the counter when there's no bagger around and then stands there like a dope waiting for the checkout clerk to bag them. Like I said, whatever I have to do to get out of there as quickly as possible is what I do.

The last few times at Lowes the self checks were out of service. They are generally much quicker than the manned lanes, so I use them unless there's a line. Many people don't know how to use them, so they can be slower when there's a line.

I rarely buy anything from WalMart. I don't go to Target, and the local grocery stores do not have self checkout.

I also do not write checks anymore, but when I did I'd have everything filled in and signed just waiting for the total to finish up. Most people who still use checks seem to be surprised when the checker is finished ringing their order up, and they then start to look for their checkbook. My debit card is much faster to use than is a check.

Self checkouts are a great place to find money. Either because some jackwagon walked off and left their change in the dispenser...or they dropped money while fishing through their wallet. Not too long ago I found a crumpled up bill laying on the floor in front of the checkout station. It paid for my groceries and I bought a couple scratch off tickets with the leftover.:D

Yes, I'm THAT guy who uses a checkbook. And, it freaks out people especially millennials because they don't expect people my age to know how to use a checkbook much less know how to write everything out.

If people get upset because because of the way I choose to pay, too bad. And it's not my problem. Go to another lane or self-check.;)

You all know I'm kidding, right?

YOU MEAN I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS STUFF?

In the words of Gomer Pyle, "surprise surprise surprise". Sorry ladies but why do you keep $ in 6 different places in your purse? My wife could not come up with an answer. MY $ is right where it ALWAYS is, in my $ clip.

I went to one today and someone left a dime, the only problem I had, I pushed English and it spoke in Spanish, good thing I still remember some of my HS Spanish. [emoji1]

Being an advocate of individual rights, if someone wants to check themself out, it's none of my business. Maybe they've just had enough. As long as you don't hurt anyone else (or their stuff, like a plane) in the process.

Oh, we're talking about buying stuff. Never mind. :p

We don't have self-checkout in the grocery stores around here; I've used it in other places, it's fine with me.

If they want to enable you to get out of the store quicker they could have 10 checkout lines open instead of 3.

Perhaps, but...

If you were in charge of the store's bottom line, would you?

It just doesn't seem too realistic in today's world.

Ok, here is my admittedly weird reasoning -

Every self checkout kiosk I've seen supplies those plastic bags. I prefer paper sacks, so I use the staffed line when I can.

I only use the self checkout line when I have just a couple items.

They need to offer me a substantial discount for me to do their job. I tell cashiers that they need to jam up those self service check-outs or they'll be un-employed soon, and how about the grocery stores that want you to bring your own bags. geessh!

I love self checkouts, I use them online all the time! :D

In real life, I try to avoid them, unless the other lines are absolutely ridiculous. I feel the company should give customers a discount for doing the work of their staff. As a side note, I also try to avoid shops that have these as an option. The only exception being Lowes.

I only use the dehumanizing self checkout as a last result (wife wants something NOW), and tell the attendants that if they want my business, they need to man the registers, but I am old and no one cares what I think.
