YOW! ATTEMPTED THEFT!!

I was told recently that my iTunes account had been frozen, but could be unfrozen if I sent "Apple" my SS#, bank account number and financial accounts and account numbers. I would not need iTunes that much, but somehow how it was not frozen. Fraud perhaps?

yeah, i didn't get hurt, but i sure got angry.
i wanna see punishment!
also, iy drives me crazy that i dpn't know how it happened.
if i don't know, i can't prevent it.

Exactly, how can you prevent something from happening when you have no idea how it did in the first place?
Two weeks ago my bank called , someone tried to purchase a $1300 plane ticket on Tiger air lines somewhere in east asia!!
I still have absolutely no idea how the heck my card number was stolen.

this is an amazing number of scams happening to us, a small number of people..
multiply our hits by the amount of cards out there n the number of scams is just insane.
i'm shocked.

I recently booked a hotel room in Pooler, Georgia, for $90.00 and change. I went up to my room and went to bed. My cell phone beeped. It was a message from my card company that the hotel had attempted to charge $3,320.12 on my card. I immediately went down stairs and "made inquires" about the charge. The "lady" at the desk told me that it was impossible and that she could not make "number entries", that she hit a key for the type of room I wanted and it immediately linked the room with an amount and she did not punch in any numbers. She refused to call the manager and stated that she could not call the plaice. I checked out and personally called the police. The officer who responded looked at my receipt and at the text message and agreed that this was no mistake. He went inside and spoke with the "lady" who checked me in and was told that she "could have punched in the wrong numbers". A direct affront to what she had told me. He admitted that he could not make an arrest but he gave me a case card and stated that a report would be written to document the incident in the event that other similar incidents occurred at that hotel. I contacted my credit card company and instructed them to refuse to pay any charges from that hotel.

What ever happened to a 2nd ID check with a credit card, for safety?

One reason I use three credit cards.
One with $150 in it for online purchases. (more if needed)

the second for general spending at stores with $300 in it.

the third is for major bills and legal stuff, which does not go into the net's system.

A pizza in France..............
oh, sorry.

It happened to me two weeks ago.

I was out of town because a friends dad had a stroke during surgery. I got a call, a text and email from AMEX to call 1-800-824-XXXX. I called and the first thing they wanted was my card number. Not going to happen as that is NOT the phone number on the back of my card. I hung up and called the number on the back of my card. The 1-800-824-XXXX ended up being AMEX Fraud Prevention direct number.

I had used my AMEX to buy some gun parts online about a week before. That is the only place I can think of where the thieves could have stolen my number. The first charge was for 3.60 Euro ($4.10) that went through. The next three charges totaled more than $17,000 and hit within minutes of the $4.10 charge. Those three charges where placed on hold pending verification and eventually declined. All four charges originated in Austria.

AMEX had a new card in my hand the following week as I was out of town and requested that it be shipped USPS since I wouldn't be there to receive the new card if sent next day air.
