zombie apocalypse?

The difference I see is that the re-enactments are based on a real period in our country's history. Zombies? Not so much (other than some of our elected officials, of course.) :p

Cowboy Action Shooting is not a historical exercise. If anything is being played out... it is celluloid westerns. There is even a sideline of it devoted only to the guns of The Wild Bunch. This has spawned retro 1911s.

Unlike a zombie shoot a CAS affair even has a dress code. You HAVE to wear your old west costume.

Then of course there are buckskin clad mountain man shoots... guys who live like Confederate soldiers and even an armored Waffen SS group that speaks only German in the field. They are located in the midwest.

A fair amount of shooting sport is centered on dress up and make believe. Even shooting pretend birds made out of clay.

Besides... there really are what effectively amounts to actual zombies.

Anyone who thinks there are no real Zombies only has to drive the New Jersey roads for a few hours in order to be quickly disabused of that erroneous conclusion.

When the big thing were vampires the industry really could not capitalize on the wooden stake and cross market.

I'm afraid you're right about that --- thinking I'd make, well, a killing, if I cornered the market in the vampire-vanquishing utensil market, I now find myself with an extensive unsold inventory of crosses, stakes, and silver bullets in various calibers and weights, as well as myriad mirrors. It's now all offered at fire-sale prices, until it's gone, or until vampires are, uh, resurrected, as the ghouls de jour...

Activities like Cowboy shooting are based on, albeit loosely, an actual period of time in our history, and to some extent, the dress, manners, and weaponry of the real people who lived in that day. I didn't say it was a 100% faithful recreation. What else is the point, though, if not to pay an homage to the era?

Escapist fantasy would seem to be the point - inspired my movies and tv shows. Same as a zombie shoot.

I had forgotten about Red Dead Revolver Undead Nightmare... The genres already mixed. Apparently some CAS shoots do involve zombies already as well.

I have seen my fair share of morons looking at guns, trying to buy guns, shooting guns irresponsibly and proving to everyone around them that they are from the shallow end of the gene pool. And guess what, not one of them had anything to do with the "zombie fad".

I love The Walking Dead, it's a great show. I like the zombie max bullets, I think they are neat and if I can pick them up cheap enough I will buy them (especially if they are cheaper then the critical deffense box sitting next to them... its the same bullet). If these zombie shoots can bring in more people for competiton and more funds to local gun clubs, I am all for it. I also believe I am a very responsible gun owner and an extremely safe gun enthusiast.

The idiots that give gun ownership a bad wrap are not coming out of the wood work becasue of the zombie craze. its our responsibility to teach our children and friends to be a responsible owner and safe shooter of their zombie gun, if they choose to buy one.

Even better - its an MP5/10mm. It'll make headshots all day at 50 yards, farther if I do my part. I was instructing at a patrol rifle class once and had it along. For s&g I tried it on the 300 yard steel targets - once I figured out the massive holdover I could keep up with the M4 boys pretty well.

Oh Man... it's a 10? Geeeeez. Now I'm all hepped up! Thought that they had all been recalled. Wanna trade for my first born? :) I'll still throw in all of the barbies!

The whole Zombie thing is ridiculous. Now they are having Zombie shoots(targets) and selling Zombie Ammo. It makes gun owners look like the juvenile, irresponsible, low IQ'd twits the anti-gunners are always trying to paint us as. The "craze"needs to go away IMO.

A craze? Really? LOL

Me thinks you work for an alphabet agency.

Do you use double tap ammo in em, and why did they choose to go in ten with those? Why not use a shorty .223? Strictly up close urban stuff? But then if so, why not just a Handgun?

UNLESS.... you work with 10's on the hip also?

Inquiring minds want to know!

That's a Helluva nice piece.

Our issue ammo is Federal 190 grain JHP, XM1003A. The MP5/10s came on board the same time the 1076s did, and outlived them. I suspect they will slowly be phased out, but I'm hanging onto mine.

I opted for the MP when I was working fugitives in New Orleans about 20 years ago. The corner boys were pretty blase even about shotguns, but that little German subgun would sure get their attention. I've been working Indian Country since, and have just stuck with it. I'm the lone holdout on my squad, everyone else has a tricked out M4.

It's probably not logical, but I like it. Most of our shootings involve people in cars anyway, and I bet it will tear up a car just fine. I can't think of too many things an M4 can do that this little gun can't do just as well.

Would you prefer the phrase group of geniuses? Bad reflection on grown-up gun owners? Flock of morons?

You pick.

I agree that the Zombie thing is a fad. Most of it is done in fun. I get a LOL out of the 10 best Zombie guns, etc.

I think a armed citizen of the US is well informed. Whatever bad stuff comes down. I would rather be armed that not.

So if it takes Zombies, to get people to get a gun it's a good thing???

Er, I mean 10.
But I am now down to 7, and the 4 riot guns made between 1934 and 1957 aren't really any good on Zombies.
And the two single shot trap guns can only take out 1 Zombie at a time.
Not nearly as many shotguns as some on this Forum have revolvers.
Come to think of it, maybe that's probably why they're not worried about the Zombies.
