Well said.Another question, since a fewof the Walkers had no stomachs--or that I could see?--how then--even with minimal stem function--can they possibly "feel" hungry? Brain stemsI would imagine--dont have the ability to have so many functions?

I don't think the zombies feel hungry. They don't feel much of anything, after all they are dead. The need to eat or bite is instinctive. There is some speculation that this instinct is triggered by the virus. Its the virus' way of spreading itself around and full fill another instinct. The need to reproduce.

As for smearing blood and guts on themselves, the virus has to get into the bloodstream for you to die. As long as you keep it on the outside, you're ok. But don't try it with an open cut or wound.

As for people turning without being bitten, this was explained in I think Season 2. The Doctor at the CDC told Rick that everyone is infected. A living body can hold the virus at bay. But when you die, no matter how you die, you will turn. Being bitten just speeds the process along.

By all means, read the books. I would suggest reading The Zombie Survival Guide first. This will give you all the basics so you can better understand World War Z. ;)

In Walking Dead it's determined that everyone is infected and once dead the virus reanimates the corps. At which point the virus has mutated so a scratch or a bite from an infected zombie speeds greatly up death, in some cases it takes days....in some cases hours

In the Walking Dead Universe, zombies are never explained as to cause. The CDC doctor did not say it was a virus. He said it could be a virus, a fungus, an act of God... in other words they did not know.

Watch carefully and you see Carol smear her face with mud.

Rick and all the others are walking dead themsleves in that they apparently carry whatever it is in their blood. Though one might suspect a supernatural explanation. Ie no more room in hell... as was said in the Romero movies at times.

The remake of Dawn of the Dead had only the bitten turning.

A person cluld just be dying from the nasty germ ridden infected bite causing a horrible infection.

World War Z

Ive heard f that book--and think ill slide by Barnes and Nobles to see if they have a copy? The Walking Dead--is my 1st watching experiance with--Zombies--soim not well schooled on the half-dead.

All of my "high-brow" friends roundly horse-laughed me for reading it until one of then borrowed it from me. He called cussing me the next morning because he had stayed up all night, not being able to put it down!

I promise you will enjoy it immensely.

Used to joke about the guys at work being zombies, but wait until quitting time and see how fast they move. Go buy a moisin nagant carbine actually comes with a pretty decent zombie sticker attached to it as seen recently on the walking dead. Frank

The Zombie apocalypses is really coming. Just think what will happen when the US Gov't. goes broke and all of the people on the Gov't. giveaway programs don't get their checks! The streets will be filled with thousands of Zombies!

Rick was the first in episode 2, I think. When they were getting out of Atlanta. Then Michone when she first met the group but that was by accident. She gutted a zombie who was standing over her. She did it again when by herself after the prison fire. Carol did it in Terminus. Does Michone dragging around zombie slaves count? She did that twice.

Now you're getting your movies crossed. The birds are only in Resident Evil, I forget which one. And 28 days later

On the birds--nope not crossed.I do and have seen part of resident evil--and like the leading lady, but if you notice in the beginnings of the episodes where they run credits--that you see birds who have "turned." I cant imagine they would have somehting like that--even in credits--just for being in the credits. I sense the storylines becoming more and more interwoven and complex.

I now know that the ""reason""for this happening--was now fabricated by the guy who got beat up--by the red-haired guy (last episode) in that it was a "Germ Warfare" kind of thing. I just dont like being "drawn-in" on somehting-for so long--to NOT know at least a set of theories on what caused the mess. I know its part of the Producers pan to keep you guessing--but more is needed and not in split 16 episode seasons either.

Also, in some cases--almost instantly--like after Rick had to kill Shane.

Will the book actually kind of--fill in the blanks? Ive never seen nor read the comicbooks either.

AMC is currently working on a Walking Dead spin-off series. I think its supposed to air next year.
They say it'll go back to the beginning of the Zombie Apocalypse with a different group of people in a different part of the country. They also hint that it will explain what happened.
Maybe we'll find out then?

ZOMBIE BOOKS

This is a great zombie book by Bart Gnarly that all fans of The Walking Dead will love. I give it four to five stars for originality and great fun reading. Here is the description on amazon.

Zombie Books is the incredible post apocalyptic story of Kyle Moore. Kyle is a 20 year old high school dropout living in Cheney Washington. He is considered a no good loser by the other residents until after the zombie apocalypse where he is one of the few remaining survivors. Contrary to popular belief he is very smart and has mad survival skills which help him thrive in a very dangerous new world. Kyle Moore becomes a zombie hunter who is determined to rid his town of all the undead and becomes the protector and local hero of the last people left alive there.

I strongly recommend the book World War Z. Frankly, I thought it would be idiotic, but it was actually quite good. Rather than being some stupid, blood and gore zombie book, it is really about modern society, our values and how we would survive and re-build in the face of a global catastrophe. It was written by the son of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft.

I read a story that they were sort of embarrassed that their son was writing zombie books until he brought home the check when he sold the movie rights and showed it to them. Mel Brooks said "I LOVE ZOMBIES!"

The book was much better. IMHO
