New to me - 1006

10XX infection

I've been infected with 10XX sickness and probably need to seek professional help.

Mailed off payment yesterday for a 1066, hope to have it next week. Comes in original box and 2 magazines. Looks like next week will have a 10mm day at my local indoor range.

Now I find myself scouring the usual places for a 1076, I need help....

I read all of the FBI threads this week, interesting reading and very educational. One thought that perked me up is that KSP used the 1076 for a while. Since I grew up in KY I would love to find one of the KSP 1076's.

Virginia also did. So if you start collecting State Police 10xx pistols... hahaha, sorry.

Your real problem is when you decide that you must have a 1046 and some 15-rd magazines. Then you are in serious trouble.

I'll be happy to do that. The gentleman is Paul Howell and his email is [email protected].

He tests each rod in his own 1006 for fit and function. I believe his price is reasonable considering the maching and assembly time required. Feel free to tell him you got his name from me, Nick Marsh.

I asked Paul to make me two of his SS 10xx guide rods and received them yesterday. For lack of a better word, I would have to say they're beautiful. Very factory looking, but way better. I just put them in my two 1006s and hand cycled a mag each through them. I can't wait to get to the range this weekend and try them out. I highly recommend Paul's work to any one who has considered swapping their aluminum rod out for a stainless one.

They are works of art aren't they? He does outstanding work. I am glad you were able to pick up a couple and are pleased. Glad photos are up too. If any other members want SS guiderods, Paul is the guy.

1066 guide rod

Checked on Midway this morning and they have 1066 guide rods, apparently this shorter rods are used on other Gen 3 guns. Appears to be in aluminum, $20.49 each.

I think I'll get Paul to make one of his for my 1066 when it arrives.

Does anyone know if S&W has a spurred hammer from other models that will fit the 1066?

Why yes, yes they do, I replaced the hammer on my 1066 with one. I'll have to see which one this is because the first one I ordered didn't work, but this one works fine. I saved all my original parts even though this gun will never be sold.

Outstanding! Appreciate your help.

Did you polish your 1066 slide?
I did a complete teardown and refinish, slide, hammer, frame and Wolf springs, polished all contact points on the inside when I got it, it had some wear on it and since I'm never selling it anyways decided to make it look the way I would have liked to see it come from the factory. I also have a 1076 in mint factory condition. The 1066 feels like Teflon coated precision in all the actions now in comparison to the factory 1076. This picture was taken while I was waiting on my new hammer to come in, obviously.

Pretty. Looks like a glamour shot...nice photography.

Second 3rd Gen- New to me 1066

Picked it up off Armslist from Colorado, in the original box with two yellow follower mags, all original wax paper, documents, Hogue grips and original grip. Cosmetically it is in very good condition. I'll strip and clean it good tonight and head for the range tomorrow.

Gotta get a stainless guide rod to replace the aluminum rod, couple of white followers for the magazines and new recoil spring. Other than that I'm good to go. I'll post pics of the 1006 and 1066 when I figure out how to do that.
