So I finally got around to ordering some ropers in fancy walnut from Herrett’s for my Model 19. I got a call from them today advising that they are closing their doors and may or may not be able to fulfill my order. They said they’d call me soon to confirm and wouldn’t charge my card until the order is processed. I asked about the closure and learned that Mr. Herrett is retiring and they’re losing the lease on their building. They were hoping someone could come in and buy the company but no such luck so far. I’ve never owned a set of their grips, so I really hope they can make them for me! Either way, it’s sad to see them go after so many years. Thought I’d give a heads up to all you Herrett’s fans out there.

Sad news, indeed. I love their D45 stocks for the 1911. I have a set. Unfortunately, one of the panels is sandwiched between a grip screw and bushing that won't come loose. :(

Very sorry to hear this. I own a number of their grips - some bought used, and a couple bought custom-made from the mothership - based on an outline of my hand. Wonderful, ergonomic shapes and great customer service. I hope the owners get to enjoy a well-deserved retirement.

Altamont also???

I think he means Ahrends. Altamont is running strong.

I only have one set of Herretts, my dad had Harretts on his duty gun. His have a little more character than mine.

Sorry to hear the news about Herretts. With all the tupperware now a days
probably not so much business for the good old wood grip makers. I will
just have to keep the few that I have. Left to Right:
CocoBolo smooth on my Model 29. Holster & belt by Chic Gaylord.
Double Diamond panels on my Colt GC. Holster by Heiser.
Jordan Troopers on my Model 19. Holster by Seventrees.

I have one pair that I bought years ago for my Colt Trooper .357 Mag.
Sorry to hear the bad news.

Sad about Ahrends too. I just saw the notice on their website about not taking any new orders after 02/22/2020, after reading the post in this thread about them closing.

That is a shame, I do like the Herrett stocks on a few of mine. Just like all good things that close their doors, watch the price go up and become all fashionable, when they could have just bought some new when they were available.

Found a picture of my 1911 with D45 grips before I swapped them out for Hogues.
