Bodyguard 2.0 Finally Released

FINALLY! I wants one! But I will wait and see how the reliability is. Don’t want to rush in. Made that mistake with the Springfield SA-35

Visited a LGS yesterday after my gym workout. Looking for the usual old school revolvers. Asked the proprietor if he had the 2.0 to look at. He said that he had a bunch last week and sold them in two days over list.
Someone is buying them.

I'm curious if the will update the Shield Plus (2.0) with this frame texture and slide serrations.

As far as slide serrations on the Shield, I assume they'll expand on what they've recently done with the 4" Carry Comp Shield.

I'm in the market for a third 3.1" Shield Plus as a host for a Holosun EPS Carry. My existing Shield Plus with a 507K ACSS will be a dry fire and range trainer and my 2.0 Shield will remain as a non-optics carry gun.

Specifically what I want is
1. Made in Maryville TN
2. Front slide serrations
3. Manual safety
4. 3.1" barrel with no ports or comps
5. Not optics ready, I'll get it milled myself for the EPS Carry.
6. I'd prefer a performance center version with tritium sights and a crisp trigger.

I'm also very interested in the manual safety version of the Bodyguard 2.0

Has anyone seen a review with it up against the Glock 42?

Yes but don't ask for a link as I have watch more than 10 videos on this 2.0 and I'm not going to even try to re-watch them all again to find it 😁.

Essentially they said they'd carried and trusted their G42 for years and after shooting the 2.0 they very much liked it. From what I remember they said the size and felt recoil were similar. They liked both triggers. They said the 2.0 definitely has better slide serrations. Said the 2.0 dominates the G42 in capacity. In the end they said their G42 has been very reliable and they just don't have enough rounds through the 2.0 yet but if it turns out to also be reliable it will be replacing the G42. (That's it in a nutshell.)

I’m happy with my LCP Max, and from comparison photos… it appears pretty close to the new S&W.

Only view I can’t see is thickness… which I tend to find is the worst measurement that companies give. Either find the thickest part (ambidextrous slide releases usually) or the narrowest… which doesn’t make a good comparison.

If someone finds a comparison of that (thickness from the rear of the guns, sort of looking down the sights), could you please link it?

I switched to the Max a little over a year ago… moving from the original LCP that I had for years. Gave it to a good friend who didn’t have an off duty/summer gun. Shoots great and not one issue in hundreds of rounds (and when I was trying it out… I shot real garbage… and kept going).

But I think this is nice gun size that has more play left in it. We had 6-8 rounds in these until the last year or two. Prior to that… to get 10+, you moved into Beretta Cheetah territory (which is a large gun compared to a LCP Max).

I have both but the BG2.0 is a huge improvement over the LCP Max. It's thinner with the grip more round off and positions your hand higher up the gun for far better control when shooting, especially fast. It's also got a much better trigger. My LCP Max is being sold, as I might throw rocks at it after shooting the BG2.0.

Handgun hero has them to compare. It’s pretty much the same size as my PM9. Looks to have a slightly higher grip so maybe you can get another finger on the grip. I might buy one to kinda replace my Colt Mustang but will still pocket carry my 9mm PM9. No butthurt PM9 owner here.

TFB has a good little preview of it....

The S&W Bodyguard 2.0 Is Smaller Than You Think | thefirearmblog.com

Has anyone seen a review with it up against the Glock 42?

Hop is dead on in that video. I think many of us were fooled by the pictures into thinking we were getting a Shield Plus in 380. S&W could have gone that way and the recoil sensitive and those who find 9mm hard to rack would have been thrilled. With the Bodyguard 2.0, S&W went to the next level and designed a gun for the caliber. Proper job.

Over a hundred trouble free rounds so far with mine.
Did you use any hollow points? I am having trouble with the Sig Sauer Elite Defense ammo loading from the magazine. The nose of the round is contacting the feed ramp and stops the slide instead of feeding up to the chamber. I'm going to stop by my local gun shop this afternoon and try a different brand.

Also, I can't get the last round to load in the 12 round mag (either by hand or with a Mag Lula). Maybe I'm a weakling but I just didn't feel comfortable pushing any harder.

Can anyone compare the dimension difference of the magazine between the BG2.0 and the original please? I prefer to carry a spare magazine in a kydex belt clip holster instead of digging in a pocket for a mag change. I am wondering if one made for the original is close enough to fit a 2.0 magazine. I haven’t seen any made specifically for the 2.0 and do not own an original to compare with. Thanks y’all and loving the feedback on the pistol.

...and sorry to just jump right in with a question. A quick introduction: long-time lurker here and have appreciated the knowledge from this forum. I have some revolvers (38 spl k-frame from the 80's) and a combat model 69 but love my 4506. My bucket list is to collect the other calibers (1006 & 4006) but they are so expensive.
I was in the market for a new carry gun. I carry a P365 x-macro every day and a Ruger LCP if the 365 is too big but I just don't feel well protected with the Ruger. I had planned to get another 365 but saw some reviews of the BG 2.0 and saw one in a gun store while on vacation last week. As soon as I held it, I thought "THAT'S PERFECT". Got a couple of holsters on the way and am anxious to start carrying it.

Thanks, look forwarding to contributing here a little more...

I'm using and carrying the Sig Elite Defense ammo and shot a whole box of it without any malfunctions. I can get all twelve rounds in mine with a Maglula but it takes a lot of work. Both the ten and twelve round mags work fine.

I had no problem running Gold Dot hollow points through mine, only did 50 due to expense but they functioned perfectly. They were less pleasant to shoot than target ammo, but they worked.

That 12th round is TOUGH to get in there. I can do it with a MagLula, but it takes effort.

Load and unload the mags a couple dozen times and the springs will soften up. Leave them full while in the safe too.

It's pretty normal these days, ever since manufacturers have been jamming every possible round into the magazine.

Watched a dozen or so YT videos about the new BG 2.0 and they were all very positive. I picked one up a couple of days ago at my local Scheels for $399. Shot 110 rounds thru it yesterday having multiple failures to feed with some cheap New Republic 95gr FMJ ammo. A quick push to the rear of the slide chambered the round and fired. No issues with American Eagle 95gr FMJs or Critical Defense JHPs. Could be a break-in issue, we'll see.

Compared to my LCP 380 Max, recoil is much softer due to the low bore axis and recoil spring design, makes for easier follow up shots. The slide on the LCP Max is much easier to rack but I'm sure the BG 2.0 will loosen up with more rounds down range.

The build quality of the BG 2.0 is night and day compared to the LCP Max.
Fit and finish is excellent and shootability is comparable to my Glock 42.

Despite the feeding issues with the New Republic FMJ ammo, I'm very excited about this gun as I use my micro 380s for pocket carry, walking dog, jogging etc. I'll put a couple of more hundred rounds thru it to confirm reliability before I put it in my carry rotation. Just need to source a couple of more mags and holsters.

I remember a J Frame being named the BodyGuard, no others. I also remember a bolt rifle being named the Model 70, no others but fakes. Then the Ford Bronco, then others.
