Okay guys and gals,

I find myself looking for suggestions from you all about a good pocket carry EDC flashlight. Something that can clip on the pocket, has lots of lumens, doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Ok, GO.......

Joe

The flashlight that is in my pocket as I type this is in my pocket all day every day and has been for the last 10+yrs(?). It goes everywhere with me and I use it every day. It is a Streamlight ProTac 1AA, it uses common AA batteries which can be found everywhere, cheap, although I do use Energizer Ultimate Lithiums in it. I think Streamlight is making a newer model that puts out more lumens but this one puts out plenty for my needs. I've never needed it, but my understanding is that Streamlight's handling of warranty issues is first rate.

I have Wurkkos TS22 (4500 lumens) and Sofirn SC33 (5200 lumens).

The Sofirn is slightly larger and heavier and has rear electronic switch. Wurkkos has a side button.

Both use 21700 cell and are rechargeable (USB-C) and run in the $30-35 range.

My daily carry light is the Streamlight Protac 2L-X. I use the streamlight rechargeable battery pack, unless I'm in the field, then it's CR123s. The only issue I've run into is the pocket clip wearing out.

I've also got a surefire stiletto for special occasions or when I wear skinny jeans. It's thinner than the Streamlight, but I can't swap the batteries and it costs more.

I've given away two streamlight wedges because the pocket clip screw kept stripping when I went to flip the side. I wear my light on the left side. It had a good light and the best form factor (thin) and was affordabl

I also carry a stylus pro as a back up light. Great light, I gotta see if I can get a red LED version. My previous Stylus was a red one, good for when you only need a little light.

KISS is a good idea when it comes to lights, I like a bottom switch push it and its on push it again and its off.
as far as lumens go be careful getting one thats to powerful. with a very strong light if you get up from a sleep and your eyes are used to the darkness if you hit a bright white wall it can blind you as much as the bad guy.
This is something everyone should try, close your eyes in your dark house and after 5 minutes hit you flashlight and see what you see.

Fortunately I have never had that issue with my wedges. But I will keep an eye out for that issue. BTW, you know Streamlight has a lifetime warranty. I bet they would have replaced those light for you in the bat of an eye.

I’ve used stream light warranty many times. Never had a problem, but I’ve had replaced lenses switch button caps, and complete rubber jackets. My Nightstand light is a little scorpion with a two small CR batteries can’t remember the numbers not overly bright if needed at night. My carry light is called a 10 tap programmable stream light ProTech MLX. That one has the rechargeable energizer batteries. The only thing is when you recharge them you have to take them out. This is an early model that didn’t have the plug-in to the flashlight itself. And then there’s my original stream light stinger with rechargeable battery and charger. The original light is probably 30 years old at least. The Protech has 1000 lm maximum and I believe the other beam is a 600 lm or possibly 300. I don’t remember and there’s also a strobe option which is good for directing traffic During the day. The other two I don’t remember what their lumens are, but they’re not real real bright that they would blind you.

I'm tracking streamlights warranties, I've been using their products since the late 90s. They mad the old Orange light boxes on all our fire trucks.

I also didn't care for the switch, but that was personal preferance, not a knock on the light or maker.

Streamlight gives you a good light for a good price.

Streamlight is pretty awesome. If wanting something more rugged check out Surefire, Cloud Defensive, or Modlite. I would not use a rechargeable "only" light. Power outages are a pain. "Dual fuel" batteries (something like a AA and a CR123 (or rechargeable batteries) is ideal. I also really like the Thyrm Switchback as an addition. Once you learn/practice with it, it's amazing!

Thats an oldy but a good. I want to say they had an incandescent version and later an LED version IIRC. I wanna say it was 60-80 lumens. They have updated them over the years. My Brother used to carry one on the job.

Go to the streamlight website. They have some reliable, affordable models. Pick one that meets your needs.

Surefire E2D Defender. indestructible, but expensive. i've carried mine at least 10 years.

i also carry a keychain NiteCore...about $10. dual output, rechargeable. very handy .

Oh, dear, I EDC a couple of knives, a handgun, wallets, a pen sometimes, money clip - do I now have to EDC a flashlight? Won't my phone work for that? I don't expect to be clearing houses anytime soon.....

And I have some of the brightest, small flashlights on the market!

You can’t go wrong with the Steamlight protac 2Lx. I’m on my second one. The first developed dark spot on the led after 5years of daily use. Streamlight replaced the lamp assembly. I use these flashlights daily for work as well as edc. They have also been used in several pistol courses.

I carry an O light i5T EOS single AA cell.It has a high and low run level and I use an Energizer Ultimate Lithium to power it.It costs about $30 and works perfectly for me with its compact size and excellent lighting options.
