A recent purchase from the Scott Meadows collection. This is a private purchase WW I era holster for the M 1917 .45 revolver. It has an Abercrombie and Fitch stamp and was likely made by Heiser, I’m comparing it to other Heisers I own from that era.

Heiser presentation belt with a number of retailers stamps

I’ve owned this belt for a couple of decades. It’s a large harness buckle with a harness leather belt. The belt has a number of various stamps used by Heiser for retailers who sold Heiser’s products. A few are saddlers, half of the stamps can be found on holsters or sheaths. I have items with 8 of the different stamps.
I’m guessing that this was made up for a visiting retail buyer, company bigwig or somebody they wanted to add to their stable. I’ve never seen another, I doubt it’s the only one but it’s the only one I’ve ever seen or heard of. The White & Davis, Reising and Browning Bros. stamps were used before WW II, I would think the Randall and Keyston Bros. stamps were used up into the 1960’s.
Note the Powder River stamp on the holster was applied over the common oval Heiser stamp.

Belt & 719

John,
1. That is a most interesting belt!
2. I have exactly one holster with the Denver Dry Goods stamp.

Marcello,
3. That 719 looks strangely familiar to me.:)
4. Here's another 719 marked for a 6 1/2" Registered Magnum.

Below an Heiser holster style 719 marked VL&D New York City and catalog

Pics come from web

Help me out, folks. I’ve seen holsters marked “V L & A” which I know stands for Von Lengerke & Antoinne, but never seen VL&D. Are they related to each other, and are VL&D marked holsters more rare? Thanks for any info.
Larry

VL&D

F. Justus Johann Von Lengerke (April 23,1854-Oct. 7,1929) was born in Oldenburg, Germany where his father operated an Armament business. He emigrated to America in 1871 and settled in Hoboken, N.J In 1876 his father’s business in Germany went bankrupt. In 1882 Justus, in partnership with Ernst Detmold, formed the Von Lengerke & Detmold Company in New York City. Justus’ brother Oswald worked with him in the business, but in 1892 moved to Chicago where he and Charles Antoine established the firm of Von Lengerke & Antoine. In 1928, the year before Justus died, the New York firm of Abercrombie & Fitch purchased both the Von Lengerke & Detmold and Von Lengerke & Antoine businesses and discontinued the V. L.& D. name.

IMHO the VL&D holsters are worth a lot more.

Thanks Lee. Perfect history lesson. I’ll have to keep an eye out for a VL&D holster.

Larry, the belt does have holes and is 37 1/2” long and 1 1/2” wide.
I have one or maybe two VL&D marked holsters, they are much harder to find than VL&A marked holsters.
These holsters are all Browning marked, the middle .45 auto holster
is not a Heiser and it has a different stamp.

Among the various photos of the 752 Mexican Hand Carved model I found a nice one LH marked VL&A Chicago and also one for Colt 45 auto Heiser marked, obviously.

Recent Heiser acquisition Model 434

Recently acquired a Heiser holster model 434 and wondered if it was made for a particular gun. I own other Heiser models but this one has a snap cap that has no name or initials on it. The face of the cap has many fine dots...not sure if the photos will pick that up. Appreciate any information as the when this model was produced. Thank you.IMG_0811.jpg
