Speaking in a gun violence symposium at University of Connecticut's School of Law, Texas A&M law professor Mary Margaret Penrose said it's time "to repeal and replace [the] Second Amendment."

Penrose said this after expressing her frustration with the fact that President Obama has failed to pass more gun control in the eleven months since the heinous crime at Sandy Hook Elementary.

According to a Connecticut news blog, Penrose said gun laws should be decided on a per-state basis, versus the overarching rules and laws that result from the current amendment: "The beauty of a states' rights model solution is it allows those of you who want to live in a state with very loose restrictions to do so."

As Breitbart News reported on December 15, 2012, a repeal of the Second Amendment is possible and can begin as soon as the majority of the populations in the 50 states vote for the repeal of the amendment. After that, the repeal has to receive two/thirds vote in the House of Representatives and two/thirds vote in the Senate, and two/thirds of all state legislatures.

Penrose said her problems with the Constitution are not limited to the Second Amendment. She "advocates redrafting the entire U.S. Constitution" in her law courses at Texas A&M.

This isn't the first pointy headed law professor to advocate doing away with the "Troublesome" bill of rights in general and the second amendment in particular. Notice that she admits that the constitution IS the law of the land, it just interferes with her definition of a "Republic".
She's probably tenured, so she can teach whatever she wants. Fortunately she is still in the minority.

What she says isn't as interesting as what she doesn't. She speaks about gun laws not working, and replacing the 2nd A, but fails to say what she would replace it with or the mechanism for doing so. She also would like changes to the entire Constitution. I suspect she would be more comfortable with a British form of government where people are seen more as "subjects' than "citizens", but I'm only speculating. In any event we are fortunate to live in a country that allows freedom of speech and she, and we, can disagree openly. (Wait a minute, isn't this because of the Constitution?)

The scary part is that she is the only one that is exposed and teaching in our Higher Institutions Of Learning and its detrimental to our original goals as a country. How many more are there? I submit that there are more than should be tolerated!!!

Never equate education with intelligence. I worked in higher ed for 17 years, some of the stupidest people I've ever known have PHD's. Some of the smartest never went past 8th grade.

I agree with her completely. The Second Amendment should be repealed and replaced with,

Congress shall make no law respecting firearms, their proper usage, nor the right of the people to possess, bear, or utilize them, or the right of the people to possess and use ammunition.

After all, progressives love the First Amendment and tell us that it is crystal clear what the Framers of the Constitution meant. We should remove the so called ambiguity in the Second Amendment by using language as close to that in the First Amendment as possible.

Damn where's the likes of Judge Roy Bean when you need a good TX hanging. My last is in college in central FL and the BS he comes home with has been the basis for many a heated debate. What needs reform in this country is our education system from top to bottom starting with abolishing the concept of tenure and the right to strike. See how many loons and inept teachers hang on to jobs then. Way too much rewriting of history and social engineering going on in schools aside from tax payer extortion. Way to easy to be a teacher, follow the norm until you gain tenure and then sit back and pursue an agenda at the expense of our children. Hopefully, all else aside, the alumni of A&M will deal with that professor appropriately.

I'm sure that idea appeals to some... repeal the second amendment, in the name of states rights, which would make it easier to pick off states one by one or just lie and turn around and pass nationwide gun bans which would no longer be encumbered by that pesky constitutional bill of rights.

This isnt my stat but--85% to 90% of all educators--are libs. That's partly why all my Great Nieces and Nephews are home schooled. A good friend of mine in Washington is a School Teacher who told me at least where he teaches at--that it's 90% non conservative there. Another friend of mine in Michigan--is a High School Principal--his estimates were 85% non conservatives teaching at his school. I definitely believe it.

I was going to say more but I dont know if it would be allowed? Had something to do with how kids are taught about sexual education.

A Harvard law degree makes an attorney but not a leader. I'd almost always rather deal with a self educated person as one that's over educated with no common sense.
