Review of Federal Classic 180 gr. hi-shok jhp for Shield
So during the ammo shortage a couple of years back I got a chance to buy 1000 rounds of these at 30 bucks per box of 50, which is not bad for 180 gr jhp. They shot well out of my P226 and I had about 500 left when I bought my Shield. They aren't new and fancy tacticool ammo, but they are reliable and very accurate out of my Shield and recoil is very managable without much flash.
So case in point I was out mowing a field on my mom's property today and the mower broke down. As I was walking back up the hill (carrying loaded of course) I caught a gopher playing hell with the hay field and threw down on it with the Shield. You know, like you do:P. You only get about a 2x2 target and they disappear fast. I did my part and that bullet did its part. I attached a pic. the round took him right behind the ear.
I don't hunt much but the gophers play hell with the hayfields and mom asked me to keep them under control. I usually get after them with a shotgun but I only had the edc on me. I did not take a pic of the other side because it wasn't pretty and the bullet definitely expanded. Trying to be polite to those who don't care for hunting.
IMOP the .40 Shield and the Federal Classic are a good working combo. Not a big fan of Federal usually, but I can't argue with the results. No ftf and very consistent.
