Does anyone have any info on this cartridge.
30 were given to me today.
Some info I have found suggests the 28 may be an FA lot# and not the date that Frankfurt Arsenal produced these.
Any info would be appreciated.
It may have a 168 gr bullet.
Thanks
Jim

28 would be the year that ammo was made. And most likely loaded with IMR 4895 to get a velocity of approximately 2600 feet per second. Bullet would nave been a 172-173 grain match boat tailed bullet. And the primer was definitely corrosive. All U.S. military ammo is stamped with the initials of the maunufacturer, year it was made and in later years the caliber designation 7.52x51 With a cross within a circle to show that, that ammunition met Nato specs.Hope this helps. Frank

I always believed it was the date also but some forums cast a little doubt. I have no plans to shoot it. It will just end up being more stuff.

Some foreign countries used head stamp numbers to indicate production lots of ammo cases at various times but the US standard was for the year of manufacture (and, during WWI and earlier, both month and year). US practice was for lot numbers to go on the packaging along with any other info they deemed might be important
