Victory 22 ammo
I bought a S&W 22 Victory and put on a red dot scope. I was planning on using CCI standard velocity ammo. I was wondering if anyone had better luck with any other ammo, I will be using it mainly for plinking.

Agree CCI standard vel is good stuff.
I bought a 5k case of Fed Match but that sometimes sticksto the feed ramp when cold so I am using it in my 617.
My next case will likely be CCI SV.
I mostly shoot bullseye.

My 2 Victories are not picky at all. They have run just about any 22 LR I have thrown at them so far. The only ammo I have had a few problems with were some of that Browning labeled stuff that usually give 2-4 duds per hundred from lack of priming compound in the rim. So you can't lay that off on the pistols.

I've shot the Fed Match, CCI, and Golden Bullets in my Victory and it has handled all of them with no malfunctions whatsoever. It doesn't seem to picky at all.

It's hard to go wrong with CCI anything in .22. Standard is really the "standard" for mid priced fodder :-)
That said, I do run the less expensive Federal Auto Match and CCI Blazzer for much of my plinking. It runs well in either of my Victories and in a collection of Ruger MK and Browning Buckmark pistols as well.
My vote is for anything but Remington.
p.s. FWIW, as a rule, I always break in any new 22 pistol with CCI Minimags for the first 300 +/- rounds. ( And recommend to my customers to do the same.) Seems to help smooth things out and get the gun settled in.

Glad to hear everyone is happy with their Victory. I bought a Victory for my wife and three weeks later it went back to Smith for ftf fte and stovepiping. Got it back and it jammed every other round. Today I installed a new TK spring, plunger and ejector. Went to the range and it jammed constantly running cci sv 40 grain. Now, it ran with very little jams running federal 36 grain high velocity. Some say the Victory needs a higher velocity because of the compensator. I need an ammo class, the reason I say that is how is a 40 grain standard velocity and a 36 grain high velocity? Isnt the more grain a higher velocity? We are slowly giving up on the Victory as my wife also shoots a Ruger Mark 4 Hunter and it loves cci sv target ammo. However the Victory is deadly as she loves the sights better. I also installed a Victory in the Ruger and if I get the Victory straightened out I planned to replace with a TK Victory trigger.

My late 80's M41 never cared much for CCI SV and would have enough feeding/ejection problems that I shot it less and less. It was really frustrating.
Fortunately, another 41 shooter suggested I try Wolf MT, made by S/K at that time and the same as SK Standard Plus. Same line, just a different box. New Wolf is made by Eley and I have zero experience with that.
It was like night and day. Malfunctions went away and the 41 ran like a top as did my SM ACE and Ruger MK I. That German made ammo acted like it was made just for the 41 and worked well in every .22 I had. I ended up buying 2 cases of it and still have a very good supply, a lifetime at my age. LOL
It's more expensive than CCI SV, but not a bunch and if you can snag a brick of the SK Standard Plus you will likely be pleasantly surprised, especially with that red dot. It's not top tier match ammo, but still wicked accurate.

Couple of notes here that might help:
-First, Velocity is a fuction of bullet weight AND the powder driving it. ( Barrel length comes into play here too.) While the lower 36 gr bullets are mostly used in high velocity ammo, 40 gr is used in both high and low velocity rounds. If shopping for "power" then Velocity and /or Muzzle Energy as printed on the box should be your guide.
-Next, If you have a compensatd pistol, it will steal a (Very) little velocity from the round. However, given the factory PC compensated barrels are 6" vs, 5.5", the longer length will add a little velocity. I'd bet it's a wash and irrelivant to performance.
-Lasty, (and maybe most important) both my Victories had their barrel, action and/or sight screws loosen up in the first few range visits. (The PC model almost rattled apart!) This caused all kinds of stopages. However, after some retighenting with loctite, they both run 100% now. I have heard multiple reports from our customers reporting the same with PC Victories. My advice: Check fit and tightness of all parts before returning your Victory to the factory. It may just need some retightening of the action screws.

Dave,
Thank you and others who responded. Well after bending the ejector slightly and replacing the ectractor, spring and plunger with TK parts I reinstalled all the original parts and off to Smith it went last week. In the meantime my wife fires her Ruger Mark4 Hunter which is extremely accurate and eats anything. I bought 1000 rounds of cci sv and already had on hand boxes of federal champion ammo so off to the range we went for an ammo test. The Ruger performed great with both, however after stripping and cleaning after each ammo the cci sv was a filthy mess to clean as the gun was loaded with residue.
After using the federal champion the gun was much more cleaner and I did not see any accuracy loss with the federal. I know everyone swears by cci but not for me.
I plan to run the rest of the cci through my Walther P22 as it likes all ammo and is a breeze to clean.
