Walmart Ammo Part 2 (The Discount)

Just left my local Wally World. They were clearing out Federal 9mm 115 grain brass case for $15/100. Grabbed up 200 rounds, but I may go back for more

Hit my local Walmart Saturday morning - picked up a 500 round box of Winchester 115gr 9mm for $74 and tax.

I was torn whether to buy more -
With Black Friday deals coming soon, I'm hoping for better deals to stock up then - online and in stores.

Walmart Clearance Ammo - Reply II. I was in South Chandler, AZ this afternoon and thought I'd look for my favorite .357 round (to shoot out of my SP101) on clearance. (110gr Winchester JHP). Walmart 1 (Gilbert and the 202) ammo was not marked for clearance and I did not talk to any employees. Walmart 2 (off 202 and AZ Ave) had two boxes clearanced for $21 for a box of 50. Bought them both and hit two other Walmarts looking for a couple more boxes. Walmart 3 (Mesa country club and Baseline) had ammo on clearance. Picked up a 150 round box of 124gr NATO 9mm for $25. Walmart 4 did not have their ammo marked clearance (Mesa Riverview). Called for service to see if it would scan at clearance priced....they had 5 boxes of my .357 110gr....she told me she didn't know why other stores had ammo marked down as it was already cheaper than anyone else. She seemed a little irritated.

My last trip to WM was just over a week ago. I was surprised at how much ammo was available but did not notice any sale, discount, or clearance pricing. I will be back in that area in next couple days and will check again.

Local ones here in SATX are stocked up and no sale $$. Academy prices are as good or better so they get my ammo money most often.

The WM on Blanco near Wurzbach had marked-down ammo on Sunday. Don't know about the others.

The WM at Eastern & Serene recently had no worthwhile HG ammo to speak of. No 100 round packs of .38 or .357 and none of the white box 110gr W-W .357 JHP, which I love in my .357 snubs. Glad to see another fellow shooter who recognizes a diamond in the rough! Must take another look-see soon but this WM is not enthusiastic about the firearms/ammo trade.

Hmm well it had been about a week since I was in WM.
Guess I needs to go back.

2'd reply.... just for laughs. Went into work yesterday and found the store manager had told the department manager to change all the tags from the the yellow clearance ones to the standard two color tags.... Didn't change the prices, just the tags. Guess she didn't want people to think wally world was discounting the ammo to get rid of it LOL. This is one of the strangest places I've ever worked...

Still have ammo coming in on almost every truck, good supply of handgun ammo and the markdown prices on some loads are a pretty good deal. Some of the rifle stuff is a good deal too though some loads are thinning out. Another funny thing, corporate supplied a list of all discontinued ammunition that the department manager printed off. There is stuff on the list that hasn't been available for years (Perfecta). Guess it was still in the computer and the geeks at corporate didn't know any better............

Or the geek store clerks. Had one kid asking me why they had names like "Thunderbolts" and "Power Points".

"Does that mean they are more powerful?"

He said he's never even held a gun, but that his wife is a preacher and she was thinking of getting her CCW so she can carry at church.

I encouraged him.

I finally made it out to the Post Falls WallyWorld yesterday.
The 2 best bargains I saw were some Winchester white box 55gr 5.56 at $0.26 a round (200 for $51.95) and some Winchester USA Forged 115gr 9mm at $0.15 a round (150 for $22.25).

Both pretty good prices for bulk brass cased ammo. Unfortunately I can reload the 9mm for less than a dime a round and the 5.56 for about 16 cents each, so those prices aren't low enough to pry my wallet open. I only buy factory 9mm if I can get it for 12 cents a round or less and .223/5.56 if it is under 20 cents each.

Stopped in Wal-Mart today to get a charging cable for my cell phone. Did the standard walk through of sporting goods. Picked up some .38 special Winchester White Box 130 FMJ for $9 a box. Couldn't believe the price. Never see any .38 under $16 in recent years. They had a couple of boxes left so I will go back tomorrow and get some more.

Well all the talk of discounts finally got to me so I swung by Wally World today. I got 400 rounds of Tulammo .223 for $50, 40 rounds of 7.62x39 for $5 (that was all they had) and one box of Remington 45 ACP for $7. I can't reload either of the rifle rounds for $0.125 a round and can barely load the 45 with a lead bullet for $0.14 apiece. I think I'll have to hit a couple of more tonight or tomorrow.

EDIT: I hit another one on the way home after my appointment tonight and scored two more 40 round boxes of 7.62x30 for $5 each and two more of the Remington 45ACP for $7 apiece.

So after taxes for $93 and change I got 400 rounds of steel .223, 120 rounds of steel 7.62x39, and 150 rounds of brass 45ACP. Less than $0.14 a round for all of it, and the cheapest I've found for any of it elsewhere is around $0.17 a round PLUS shipping for the .223

Some Walmarts are starting to take ammo off the shelf. Anything with even pricing, price ending in .00 will be removed from the shelf soon. Buy it if you want it.

Yeah, I forgot to add that the clerk at the first store I went to tonight said "Word is that these are the final markdowns. Anything not sold by December 26th will be donated to the local police departments for a tax write-off."

No way to know if she knew what she was talking about, but she sounded pretty confident and convincing.

The local WM here said the same thing.
