The CCI standard velocity 40 grain ammo has been my exclusive M41 fodder for many many years now. It is so reliable I actually forgot about having rimfire duds. Well today I got one and even after multiple hits, it was a primer-less cartridge I believe.

It's been so long since I've had a CCI dud it came as a complete surprise - lol  Just reminded me of two things......

1) just how reliable the CCI brand rimfire is

2) why I'd never carry a 22 for SD.

I had my first and only CCI-SV dud about three years ago and I've been using this ammo for a long time, buying it by the case of 5,000. As I recall, the dud fired on the second strike but the second strike shouldn't have been necessary.

Never had a misfire of any sort w/ CCI MiniMags, Aguila .22 LR ammunition, etc. In fact it is easier to remember repeated problems with Winchester Wildcat and Remington Golden .22 LR ammo. Neither has for me been very reliable. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

Recently have had MiniMag Failures to Fire in Ruger LCP and Beretta 21a.
None in Beretta 70s, Walther PPK/S and Smith Model 63.

I’ve had a few CCI failures. Interestingly, about the same as Federal bulk, over a thousand rounds or so. (I track every shot reliability-wise.)

I have mass bricks of CCI subs and SV, and have shot great multitudes of it. I can't recall ever having a problem with it.

Years ago when CCI came out with the 710 FPS Quiet rounds I bought 5 50 round boxes of it. I hate the cardboard boxes so I put them in some left over 100 round plastic boxes and taped the label on them.

When I stamped 2 AR lowers I had a 22 upper on one. I was so excited the day my stamps came I grabbed a couple 100 round boxes and headed to the range. AR cycled 1 round, after that it was a single shot rifle. I was needless to say most bummed, and was wondering if somehow having the barrel cut from 16" to 11.5" might have something to do with it. Couldn't think of anything else.

After getting home I noticed the label on the boxes. Both boxes I grabbed was the Quiet rounds. Felt pretty stupid.

Most of my .22 shooting is with a Remington Rangemaster model 37. Informal bench rest stuff. The CCI-SV is good enough for everything but the most serious grudge match. Never had a dud. A FTF with CCI would have me looking at hammer spring tension or dirty chamber problems.

Federal, Remington or Winchester groups so bad I only use it for close up pistol practice. CCI-SV groups so good it's only outperformed by $20. Eley. I buy loads of the stuff.

I can only speak of my personal experiences, however Eley Olympic Grade and a few other grades I've tried was not good at all! In fact, Winchester Wildcat "promo ammo" outshoots the Eley in the rifles and handguns I have tried it in. I guess I must be missing something, but I see Eley as underpowered, inaccurate ammunition.

I'm sure it works well for some people but it has always remained a mystery to me. I still have 5 or 6 partial boxes left which one day I'll just shoot out at steel plates or something.

I have shot thousands and thousands of rounds of CCI Stnd Velo and their Mini Mags . I don't ever recall having had a misfire or at least if I did they were so infrequent I don't remember.

+1, been shooting the SV since I was a kid then shooting the stingers when they were introduced a few years later. I can't even imagine how many rounds I have fire and I do not recall any misfires hang fires etc.

I declared a personal jihad on fox squirrels, groundhogs, crows, cottontails and any other small game or varmint at an early age and CCI was my ammo of choice.

I have only had 1 none firing 22 LR round ever. It came from ammo I would have never expected would not fire, ELEY Tenex. Never in my wildest nightmares would I have expected that!!!

My Ruger Standard and MKIIs will eat anything; so 2 or 3 duds every 100 rounds of bargain ammo is the norm. But when I treat myself to CCIs, the duds nearly disappear. :)

I never had an issue with the 100 round plastic boxed SV, but the 50 round paper box reliability is low. I also noticed a difference in the report and accuracy of the paper box rounds. I've taken apart some FTF rounds and found the firing pin struck a section of the rim where there was no primer. I think quality control has fallen down. I've found TAC 22 to be very reliable and accurate.

I've had good luck with Aguila .22 ammo. Pull a bullet from one and you will see that it has way more priming compound in the case rim than other brands.

I've used a lot of Aguila in the last fifteen or more years, but overall have found it inferior to CCI SV. One Aguila lot shot accurately and the next was mediocre. It doesn't function as reliably in semi-auto handguns as the CCI. I bought a good bit (maybe a case) ten or twelve years ago; a high percentge of duds, maybe 5%. Perhaps it was just a bad lot, but I no longer like to take a chance buying Aguila.

In defense of Aguila SV, the last time I tried any (about six years ago), ten five-shot 50 yard groups from two good quality non-target rifles (five groups with each rifle) averaged .83", pretty good, but CCI SV did .67". With HV Aguila, results were surprisingly a little better with Aguila averaging .77", close to CCI SV accuracy.
