May be a trivial subject for a thread, but bought this estate sale find and debating either sell or shoot. Anyone with experience care to share? Thanks in advance.

The only way any ammo delivers "reduced recoil" is by using reduced powder charges. Reduced powder chargers means reduced velocity, which in the case of most handgun rounds would mean marginal performance, however, with the .500, reduced power loads are likely still more powerful than than all other handgun loads. For example, a reduced power 350 grain load going 1,100 fps is still slamming into the target with 940 foot-pounds of energy!

Have never seen that load before but I use 18.0 grains of Unique with a 350 grain Berry's plated bullet for 1050 fps from a 4"...really pleasant shooting...

Never shot this ammo, but according to the specs it's at 1568 ft⋅lbf (2126J), so about halfway between .500 S&W Special and .500 S&W Magnum and on par with hot .50AE. Since there is not enough "low power" ammo available for .500 S&W Magnum and hardly any .500 S&W Special, I'd keep it. Would be great for someone shooting a 500 for the first time, and even though you will definitely feel the difference compared to a hot .500 cartridge, it still has plenty of power. Ever shot a .50AE Desert Eagle with hot loads and thought to yourself "This is just too weak for my purpose!"? It may be "reduced recoil", but it will still handle most any situation just fine.

While I do not own a .500 I have shot hundreds of rounds through a bunch of them (friends). I would welcome the reduced recoil rounds but not so much for the recoil, I object to the noise of the full house 500's. Hopefully, the reduced recoil rounds also reduce the noise levels.

Thanks gents for the info. I'm not that big of 500 shooter and no longer reload but have thought about getting back into it for certain calibers, but I do agree and think I'll keep and try it.
