Yep, I got the lifetime last summer when mine was due for renewal. No different than getting one was before, just a little more money. $125 for first time & $100 if you are a renewal. Once you have it you're done forever - don't have to doing anything ever again. (except notify if you move for example)

In Permit

As said same as the standard , but more money. Most of us have

renewed to lifetime. I wish they would make them like our Dr Lic

with picture and not paper.

all my friends have switched, i have 2 years to go on this one and i will get one also. if i am not mistaken indiana has done away with some other life time licenses like hunting and fishing as it is seen as lost revenue. so if at all possible i think any that can get this license now, should before they do away with it. and i know it may be splitting hairs but Indiana does not issue a ccw per ‘se, they issue a 'to carry' license. So theoretically you could strap it to your head and go out and about, though most don’t. luck to ya.

Pardon my ignorance but if you have to re-new the permit, then it is not a lifetime the way I see it.

Louisiana sells a four yr permit and then in four yrs you re-new it. As long as you keep renewing it, you are good to go.

I would think a lifetime permit would not need to be renewed.

Can someone offer an explanation for the need to renew a lifetime permit?

He didn't say you had to renew the permit. He said if it was an initial permit it was one fee to get the lifetime, if you were renewing a regular permit and changing up to a lifetime, it was another fee.

Thanks. I guess I did not read it closely enough.

It is great that IN has such. Not too many years back, it was difficult to get a permit according to friends that live there.

Now my question would be how does the State know when someone would no longer be eligible for a permit. A lot of good guys became bad guys over the years and many criminal actions do not make the computers and even if they did, who would match them against the CCW registry?

In Indiana the authority to issue a license is held by the Superintendent of the Indiana State Police. They have access to all criminal records, if you even get a speeding ticket it shows up on their data bases. If you do something that warrants suspension you get a letter in the mail sent to the address on your license which must be (by law) kept up to date. That letter will tell you to send in your license, it is very hard to get it back if it has been rescinded.

A 4 yr license is issued for a fee set by the police jurisdiction you live in then the State Police have a fee added to that, this fee is paid each time you renew. The same structure is in place for a life time license but the fees are higher. And you only have to do it once. We have recip. agreements with I believe 30 some odd states +/-

Indiana will recognise any carry permit from other states , but since Indiana does not require any training for the lisense many states will not honor the In.carry permit .I think Arazona is facing the same problem with their new law. Notice that IN.is a carry law you must have it to go to a range to pratice you can carry open or concieled.

Applied for my lifetime permit yesterday. Filled out
1 simple form and a fingerprint card, was fingerprinted, paid the PD $50 cash, put a $75 money order made payable to "State of Indiana" in the envelope and mailed it. That's all there was to it. The whole process took about 15 minutes. I wish they would make them like a drivers license too. I will laminate mine like my son did to make it last longer.

Ind. issues 2 types of permit.
First is a carry permit, second is a hunting and target practice permit. Each has caveats one is when you buy a handgun and must drive it home from the shop, you don’t have to have any permits to do this. If you are going to carry a gun (in IND.) I encourage any and all to research all of the laws covering this practice and don’t rely on the internet for your legal advice. Some local areas have local ordinances also. This includes my advise also, check it out for yourself it is your responsibility. There is a web site that will give you who has recip agreements with who, but it is covered by the new copy rite rule but it is not hard to find.

Nevada recently stopped honoring FL CWPs because of little to no hands on training although about 33 other states swap with FL. Personally I think you need some sort of instruction to at least know which end the bullet comes out. Our licenses recently went to 8 year renewals-up from 4 when I got mine years ago.

I consider requiring any kind of a permit a violation of our rights, let alone requiring training. Somehow we manage not to shoot each other.
