Security sign for my house

I doubt if the signs get many vehicles broken into since it doesn't mean that the unattended vehicle has guns in it but that the owner who could be anywhere is likely packing.

Not so in this area. Many of the vehicles from which guns have been stolen had pro gun decals or bumper stickers on them. The usual stolen items from cars are GPS units, packages and purses. Having pro gun identification lets the perp know there is a great possiblity of a gun being in the unattended vehicle. The odds increases when the unattended vehicle is parked in the lot of an employer that does not allow guns inside the business.

I dont mean to offend anyone but I gotta say, to me the type that puts up these stickers and signs always reminds me of chest beaters and wannabes. I never have been impressed with the breed.

agreed

I have to agree w/feralmerril on this. I have a NRA sticker on the back window of my truck an have often wondered about the consequences of that. Criminals seem to be getting smarter these days. I think I'll go scrape it off.
Peace,
gordon:)

I don't think a sign warning criminals to stay away puts someone in the same catagory as a chest beater. I do believe when a criminal knows that you're prepared to defend yourself you are much less likely to have to. I'd much rather have them not come in because they know I'm armed then to have to shoot someone.

I do not advertise I have firearms (or used too) for the same reason I don't open carry-why give the BG prior warning?
I am like Iggy- the last thing the BG is going to hear and see is the shot sound and see is the muzzle flash.

I am not a big fan of having signs or stickers advertiseing the fact that there might be weapons in my house or car. But I will say that any attorney who says that having any of these posted is going to make it bad for you if you ever are forced to shoot someone, is definately not an attorney I would hire. They might as well wear a sign that says "I am highly incompetent----don't hire me".

Anyone who reads a newspaper knows that it won't take a sign in the window or on a fence for someone to find an attorney to sue you... as a matter of fact, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to pick up a newspaper tomorrow and read about a gun owner who shot a burglar and was being sued because they DIDN'T have a sign posted warning that there was an armed citizen inside that was prepared to shoot anyone who threatened his life. I mean, why not? We have to post that we don't allow trespassers, hunters, solicitors, etc. already, why not that we don't allow kidnappers, rapists and thieves as well? Doesn't the burglar have the right to know whether or not he might get shot? I can see it now...

Yep, I have the magnet on my front door that says my dog eats everyone that I shoot. I also have another on my back fence that says "Forget the dog, beware of owner." Does that make me a chest beater, as some have denounced those of us who do post a sign here and there? I don't think so... I think of it more as a warning that if you choose to ignore it, you get what's coming to you. A shot across the bow, so to speak. After all, if it makes one thug think twice about invading my house, then it's one less possibility of someone getting hurt or killed. Anyone casing my house would see me open carrying anytime that they see me outside the house or in the garage working. They would see me and the wife load up the Cherokee with a bunch of guns and ammo cans and go off target shooting. They would more than likely see one or more of my LEO buddys stop by to shoot the bull several times a week. If they are stupid enough to come on in, they deserve the greeting they will get. At least we have a decent Castle Doctrine law here, I haven't seen anyone in the last two years get charged for shooting a thug, even had a few who didn't have a weapon that got their ticket punched, no charges filed. Just had a gal who owns a store here in Missouri, had three teens trying to steal potato chips, when she faced them down, one pulled a gun... so did she, shot him right in the buttocks... maybe they will sue her because she didn't have a sign that warned them that she was armed? Wouldn't be a bit surprised.

Another good reason to live in Arizona:) The scumbags are out of luck.

13-413. No civil liability for justified conduct

No person in this state shall be subject to civil liability for engaging in conduct otherwise justified pursuant to the provisions of this chapter.

Dogs are the best protection against burglars.
A sign with a Rottweiler will hold off a lot of scum!

I agree. Here's my partner, isn't he cute?

I have to disagree.
Advertising that your going to murder someone or
that your a warrior willing to take lives is not good in court.

Lets just say that it was 100% justified and lawful.
The scumbag's family will connect with an agressive lawyer
(because most times they have extensive experience with the court system-
we did say it was a scumbag and a sumbags family).

In turn that scumbag lawyer will research and hone in on anything and everything
that will show that your a "gun-nut",
that WANTS to shoot other defenseless human-beings,
that are down on their luck.

Now all of us here know that is horse crap,
but our system is liberal, and bent!
Do not give those type of ppl a leg to stand on!

Hell, even posting on these websites with agressive
and "chest pounding" statements will be found and exploited.
Just use common sense...

This was not only directed to '357larry',
so please dont think I am pickin on you.... not my intent...
just my perspective and as I see it, and possible insight.

My guess would be that dog is as much of a potential liability problem as anyone's sign. Looks to me like he is being trained to be vicious. If I were a lawyer, I would be sure to search out this picture and present it as evidence that you are/were in possession of a vicious attack dog.;)

Those signs are in no way an advertisement of intent to murder. They simply state intention to defend yourself against a criminal attack. Just like a no parking sign stating that violators will be towed is not someone advertising that they are going to steal cars.

Actually small things can come back to hurt you.

A few years ago there was a shooting in the local area. I was called to the scene within a hour of the shooting. It was a business place in a rough side of town. An actor came in armed with a handgun, fired a shot into the ceiling and screamed he wanted the money. As the clerk was handing over the money, the owner came from behind a counter with his own .357 and fired once at the perp. The perp left the money behind and staggered to a waiting car. He was shoved out at the emergency room of a hospital and was found dead.

The family of the deceased filed suit against the store owner for wrongful death. Their atty claimed the owner wearing a gun in the store proved that he was looking to shoot someone.

Criminally the owner was cleared. Ciivil suits against him caused his legal fees put him out of business. His premise liability paid limits to the family of the perp as well. Had the man not wore the gun all the time, their claim would not have held up. The family never collected a dime from the owner since the judge ruled against them but he never recovered from the legal fees.

It's a shame how some states still think of a defense shooting as a wrongful death and allow civil lawsuits on a justifiable action. It sounds like the perp's family's lawyer wanted the judge to believe that everyone who carries a gun is looking to shoot someone.
