Best pocket gun

I pocket carry a Glock 43 with a kydex trigger guard cover. I'm 6 foot 3 inches and weigh 245 pounds. I've carried this little guy in cargo shorts, camouflage utilities and blue jeans. If it bulges in my pocket, most people think it's a wallet or a cell phone. The belt I wear goes through the lanyard from the kydex trigger guard cover. I have practiced pulling the pistol and the kydex cover snaps off easily. I wouldn't dare carry in my pocket without that trigger guard cover snapped in place. I used to uncomforably pocket carry a 9x18 Makarov. The Glock 43 is noticeably lighter by 10 ounces and thinner plus it is a 9x19 recoil operated rather than 9x18mm blowback operated.

LCP for everyday pocket carry for me. I've had mine for 6 years and have put well over a thousand rounds through it. I'm pretty accurate with it. It carries very well. I carry Fiocchi Extrema XTP or Precision One XTP and with those ballistics, feel pretty good about my choice.

My vote would go to the enclosed hammer S&W Centennials. The 642/442 offer the most bang for the buck IMO. The 340 M&P is nice also albeit pricey. I am also a fan of the 640, but it is a tad heavy for my preference for a pocket gun.

..................that is why the selection of a carry gun is a decision only you can make for yourself after much trial and error.

For my purposes I carry, 99% of the time, a 649 in .38 Special that has been improved by C&S. I carry, most days, in my front, strong side pocket in a Galco Horsehide pocket holster.

Have carried that combo for going on 10 years.

Shown with other occasional carry methods.

Galco Ankle Holster
Blackhawk Belt Holster
Null Inside Waistband Holster

Nice ammo case. Who made yours? I'm thinking of buying one and looking at a few.

Cartridge carrier.................

...........Gitagun the one in the image above is not marked, not sure who made it, it is not maker marked, and I think I picked it up used.

Most any of the quality leather makers do good ones. I would recommend those known as "pick two" versions with the cartridges separated in pairs. The open slit ones tend to let the remaining rounds fall down in the pouch as you begin to remove others. The examples below all fall forward when unsnapped for access to the cartridges.

Here are a few examples;

It's probably mostly in my head, but a j frame just seems to be a bit too obvious in most of my pants pockets. A Ruger LCP is about the most I can get away with.

Any hammer less revolver. No semi autos. With the hammer less revolver, you can walk with your hand on it in your pocket and if need be never draw it but can shoot from inside a pocket or purse with no slide to hang up.

WOW :eek::eek::eek:
You must have some HUGE PANTS in order for the pockets to be big enough to put your gun in, get your hand in a firing grip, point/aim the gun and fire.
I hope my pants NEVER get that big!

I know, I know, you are referring to a "jacket" pocket.
Though that is certainly a "pocket", I believe the term "pocket carry" is commonly meaning to refer to PANTS pockets.

My Shield fits in my shorts and jeans, but not all of my "good" slacks. Since I rarely dress up it's not an issue - I just make sure to pick a pair of pants it fits.

Another pouch..

TUFF 7907 Size 2. Holds two charged .37 or .357mag speedstrips horizontally or vertically (vertical is my preference). The velcro flap folds the tabs down and when you open it, the tabs pop up.

Now THAT'S impressive. By that same study, the 380ACP out-shined the 44Mag. Flawed study, me thinks?

I don't agree. First, the numbers are the numbers. It would be hard to find a flaw there. Second, it looks like the smaller, easier to shoot guns do better which would mean marksmanship is more important than caliber. That is until you get to long guns which pretty much run away with it. Bigger, more powerful round and easier to shoot. All handguns are a compromise and none really shine in a SD role. Learning to put the bullet where it will do the job is the most important factor. I use .38 spl, .380 & 9mm and don't feel under gunned with any of them. If I think it's turning into a SHTF situation I'm fighting my way to a rifle.

I carry a Ruger LCP in a DeSantis Nemesis. Drop it in the pants pocket in the morning and it stays there till bedtime. Carries unnoticed as a wallet.

At 9.6oz and .82in wide it's among the lightest and thinest in it's class. It's got a good reputation for reliability among mouse guns, and with Hornady CD my LCP has been 100%.

Those who fuss over the effectiveness of handgun calibers from .380ACP on up ought to carry a rifle to relieve themselves of such anxieties. :D

Minute of bad guy works for me.

A S&W 327PC snubby makes a nice pocket piece, without being a mouse gun. With 8 rounds of .357 mag. and full sized grip frame, it is a terrific carry piece! Just my opinion.

We need mouse guns in Florida because the summer clothes weigh about 2-oz. That 327PC would be dragging the ground if I put it in my pocket.

Tell me about the forensics of the people shot with the .380XTP. Tell me how many people have been shot with it, and how many stopped.

You completely made it up.

If I had a dollar for every person shot to death with a .380 acp while I was on the job, I could buy a steak dinner and those mostly were FMJs. The German Police carried Walther PPs in .32 acp well in the 1970s. The graveyards of Europe are full of criminals shot to death by Police with .32s.

Here's one flaw- Per the author - " I also believe the data for the .25, .32 and .44 magnum should be viewed with suspicion. I simply don't have enough data (in comparison to the other calibers) to draw an accurate comparison. I reported the data I have, but I really don't believe that a .32 ACP incapacitates people at a higher rate than the .45 ACP!

One other thing to look at is the 9mm data. A huge number (over half) of 9mm shootings involved ball ammo. I think that skewed the results of the study in a negative manner. One can reasonable expect that FMJ ammo will not stop as well as a state of the art expanding bullet. I personally believe that the 9mm is a better stopper than the numbers here indicate, but you can make that decision for yourself based on the data presented."

Still, it's a very interesting study. Just gotta be careful in how you interpret the data. You're right though in stating that a rifle trumps all in the final analysis.

Phil and other .380 pocket pistol carriers: Where/how do you carry your spare mag(s)? I carry mine in my off-hand cargo pocket but it's not an elegant solution...
