S&W model 637.
It's a J-frame , 5 shot , 2 inch barreled , Airweight with an exposed hammer.
I started off with a model 60 , same as above but all steel.
Listened to "experts" , only a 45 will do . Moved up to a 1911 full size, next a light weight commander , next a 5 shot snub nosed , stainless steel , 45 acp revolver (Taurus 415) . The problem with all the 45's was bulk and weight...and if it isn't on your person, it's not going to help.
So I asked some LEO's , freinds who had been on the force decades. Everyone had an Airweight , 38 special , and had it in a pocket on their person . Every one said the exposed hammer snagging thing is a non issue, they all preferred hammer guns.
I got one in 2004 , all the others stay home , the airweight gets put in a pocket, pants in summer, coat in winter.
I alter my pockets , with thin leather sewn insides to create a built-in holster. I never could find a pocket holster I liked. So I made my own pants pocket holster.
I can tell you the exposed hammer is not a problem . I tried a hammerless S&W Airweight for a while and just didn't care for it at all.
