Summer Carry?
I live in Northeast Ohio where the weather can take sharp turns no matter what season we are in. I know some people live in areas where seasonal change is less noticeable, so this may not apply to them. For those who live in areas like me with the four seasons, does what you carry change depending on the season, or do you generally have the same EDC regardless. I used to carry my 686 more in winter because it was easier to conceal under a puffy coat, but I wonder 🤔 sometimes if my model 36 being carried all the time is just a better idea to have consistency. What do you guys do?
If you do have summer Carry post pictures. I'll post what I carried today in my shorts.

NE Ohio also. Often in warm weather its either a 642 or a Glock 42 or 43 AIWB. Sometimes a G26 OWB under a short sleeved unbuttoned shirt. Cool weather any of the preceding or a G19.

I live in an open carry state, which is nice because I don’t need to legally care if I’m printing or if i accidentally expose my firearm. Because of that I OWB carry a 3 inch 357. I find concealment tactically advantageous so I try and wear t shirts that hide the weapon 90% of the time which I find acceptable enough given the odds of needing to use it.
My go to CCW are S&W 19 Carry Comp or 3 inch Python.
That being said all of my family (wife’s also) is in Florida which used to be a pain in the *** if you accidentally exposed the firearm so I’m close to buying a snub nosed revolver option. I know myself and I won’t carry if it’s crazy uncomfortable, and I need to carry revolvers OWB or it annoys me. What gets exposed the most is the bottom of my holster, so I’m exploring short barrel options for when I’m visiting out of state. I’m also set on revolvers because I’m weird and shoot them better than semi autos

I live in the snowbelt of ohio and don’t really change carry guns seasonally, I do have several handguns that over lap in size and weight all in same caliber.
So I choose by location and activities, I spent 3 days in Columbus so I had a G19 but local run to store it’s a Shield plus.
Climbing in and out of a jeep all day I’m wanting a lighter gun, even just 4ozs matters.
Once I choose the gun I then choose clothing.

I live in Central Ohio and have settled on my 640-1 Pro for year around carry. Either IWB in a Milt Sparks VMII or OWB in a Simply Rugged Silver Dollar pancake.
For me, this checks all of the boxes….

I spent my LEO career in the PRNJ where going armed is, shall we say, “officially frowned upon”. Consequently, I’m uncomfortable with open carry or casual concealment. Having said that, when in Philly this weekend, I’ll be carrying a 1911 commander length .45 in a Galco shoulder holster over a good cotton T-shirt and concealed by a loose fitting Columbia fishing shirt. Florida style.
Home in the Poconos I’ll usually drop a J frame with a DeSantis pocket holster into my jeans or shorts for a run to the Dollar store. For summer wear.
Runs to NJ and NY require more clothing compromises since even printing can have very negative consequences.

Colder weather makes for better cover clothes, warm weather requires more attention to choice of clothing. With either pants or shorts a short sleeve shirt with a contrasting printed design will go a long ways to concealing a weapon, just make sure it is a long and loose fit if it's for a AWB holster. Also stick with around 3" or less revolvers/pistols. IWB and pocket holsters should be a consideration. Fashion might have to take a back seat to function.

If you carry a L frame in the winter, a j frame summer carry is a good compromise. When I started my LEO career, we carried K frames on duty and J frames off duty since they were identical in operation. Some guys carried k frames off duty as well, especially in colder weather. An L frame is a very capable weapon but don’t feel disadvantaged with a Chief Special in warmer weather. JMHO.

I live and work in one very hot and extremely humid area.
Some of us have no choice but to suck-it-up in the summer. You get used to carrying a full size pistol. I usually carry IWB. Always in leather against a coolmax t-shirt, then concealed under a loose shirt or vest.
I do the same with a shoulder holster. The shoulder holster is mighty comfortable and a better choice if you're in the driver's seat a lot.
This is a cooler weather pic, but in the summer, I wear it over a coolmax t-shirt, same as IWB mentioned above.

G43 IWB year round off duty and sometimes on duty. Very comfortable and good fire power to weight ratio.

We have all kinds of seasons in North Central Texas. When it's cold I pocket carry a M649. When it's blistering hot I pocket carry a M649. Same gun, same pocket. Jeans, shorts (which I rarely wear but, if I do, same same), slacks/suit pants.
My variation is solely based on external factors like will I be where there are many targets of opportunity for goblins? In which case I switch to a higher capacity handgun, presently a Walther CCP but I am contemplating a change.
I am not fond of polymer handguns, even this excellent model, and I have some all metal beauties that once I am satisfied with my proficiency with them they will join the battery of EDCs that can be carried in my pocket.
Admittedly, I have been known to belt carry the same guns but it is not the weather but other circumstances that dictate this.

How do you like the VMII? I ordered one a few months ago for my Chief with magnet loops bc I often go in and out of no gun zones as an educator. The magnet loops make it easier to take it off and put it back on quickly.

I prefer to carry a 2" Model 15 as much as possible in a pancake holster at about my 3 o'clock. In the summer, I sometimes find it impractical to wear a proper cover garment, so I carry a 37 or 642 or 40 or 12 in my pocket, in a JIT slide. I may sometimes carry a 37 or a C*** Agent in an ankle holster, but only as a second gun.

I find appendix carry to be the easiest to conceal a K Frame or Glock 19 class size pistol with minimal cover garments. I like Philster and Tulster in kydex, Kramer for leather.
AIWB carry isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. A J frame is usually riding along too, usually as a back up but sometimes as a primary. Life is full of risks.

I find the VMII to be extremely secure and comfortable for all day wear/carry. In fact, I also have one for my Kimber Ultra Carry.
I don’t have any experience with the magnetic snaps but haven’t found the standard loop snaps to be of any issue.

J Frame in a pocket holster unless my wardrobe dictates something smaller, then it’s the LCP also in a pocket holster.

I’m in a climate very similar to yours. I just made my seasonal carry switch this week, which is going down from the extended 13 round mag to the 10 round flush fit in my Shield Plus. I carry a 13 round reload year round.

I prefer to carry the same firearm year-round. There might be occasions where I feel like stepping up the firepower, but that is becoming less often the older I get.

My maine street / in town carry is a Sig P365 - OWB in the winter in a high ride pancake, with a sweater or jacket as cover. IWB in the summer with a baggy T shirt, or one of those loose fitting fishing shirts as cover. Almost always, an LCP in my pocket, or somewhere else on me as well. Spare mag for the P365 in my left back pocket.

J-Frame in RF pocket, every day, every way, except bicycling! A LCR in right kidney water bottle pocket (yes it prints!) but then I'm gone before you can really think about it.

I always appreciate your input given your experience and service, Sir.
I will admit even at 34, I do not like carrying my 686, even when I can conceal it under a puffy coat it is a brick on the hip. I think I will probably carry my model 36 year-round just because it is easier to conceal and more comfortable to carry.

I carry a model 66 sometimes. Interesting that the K frame weighs almost exactly what Glock 23 (loaded) weighs.
I love this Bianchi.

Lot of old cops with bad backs carrying all that weight on their belts for 30+ years. Off duty or plain clothes most carried a S&W or Colt snub revolver like you.

Also a fan of the Bianchi Pistol Pocket IWB holsters. As for warm weather cover garments over a tshirt how about a reflective vest? Shouldn't be difficult to find one with the name of a construction company, landscaper etc that is commonly seen around town. Lightweight adjustable to fit just about any size person and commonplace either in the country or city. If the weapon prints most folks would think it's a job tool on your belt.

I carried a 2 1/2" 19-3 that I bought in 1976 for many years off duty and plain-clothed assignments. Still have it and it is a near perfect revolver. But, like you said a fully loaded 13+1 G23 is similar weight with over double the firepower of the revolver. That's what eventually replaced my 19-3 and has evolved now to 9 mm in the G19.

I have never cared much for mouse guns and never carry anything less than a J frame. I am fortunate to have J, K, L and N frame choices plus 1911's, BHP's and have had several plastic fantastics. Around the house and the property I often throw a J frame on or in the pocket. Currently that is a 649 that I just got. when out and about, I often want something with a bit more capacity with what is going on these days. Lately that has been a 365 X-Macro with a RDO carried AIWB. Every time I carry a J snub now, I think about multiple attackers, on drugs and the possibliity of misses. I mostly carry something with more capacity but I still love my revolvers.

Winter, spring, summer, fall. Bodyguard .380 in a Mica pocket holster.
I carried a J frame AIWB in a Lobo for a couple years but the leather gun belt caused nerve compression problems. I have no hips or *** so had to cinch it pretty tight. I can and sometimes do still carry it AIWB in a Lobo with a 1.25" canvas belt. And I can pocket carry it in certain jeans. But for the past year it's been the BG.
Still holding out hope for a Bodyguard Plus.

Northern Nevada here. All 4 seasons and usually a 30 degree spread from dawn to dark. Summers, I live in Hawaiian shirts either strong side or crossdraw, various revolvers or small semis..

Retired from a north Jersey PD, now in VA. For years I would carry a J frame in the winter and a G42 in the summer. My last LEOSA qualification the well maintained Glock had two FTE. That was it. Now a range gun only, I can't trust it.
A 442 is now full time but I may dig deep and go for a 340 PD. I carried a earlier. 38 spl. model years ago, I never should have sold it. This all sits well with me. I've always been a revolver guy.

Yeah, they have always gone bang when I pulled the trigger. Not to many reports of J frame leg either.

Winters up here are cold, and multiple layering makes iwb carry difficult to access when going out. As like keeping firearm on person in winter, have switched to G23 in front pocket of heavy overalls. In warm weather back to 3 in 1911 iwb.

Doesn't matter what time of year it is, I'm going with my shield 45. May get a holster for the full size 40 for winter next year, but will still probably carry the shield most of the time.

Picked up a Shield 9mm soon after they came out because my Compact 9 was too bulky for summer carry. Wasn't long before the Shield became my year round EDC. An easy carry and I'm good with it. Bought a Shield 45 after they made the scene, so it's one or the other.

I think people have two ways to look at Concealed Carry. Being a Lawman I have been carrying a concealed handgun for 50 years. What was okay in 1973 still works today. I think most people overthink it.
But for the non-LEOs and new carriers they are just "reinventing the wheel". Everyone is well served if they get "professional training".
