Colt Magnum Carry

I just got home from the local gun shop. I spotted a Colt Magnum Carry in his case, thought it looked good and bought it. I had my model 37 to compare it with. Although a bit bigger, the sixth charge hole and the .357 caliber appealed to me. The Houge grips have to go do to their size. What do I need to shop for? It seem crimson trace doesn't make a grip for it. Will Detective Special grips fit? A tritnium big dot? Does Don hume make a pocket holster for it? How do they shoot? What loads for bears?

I have the SFVI which is the .38 version, a friend of mine has the Magnum Carry.Mine is great to shoot, but the .357 magnum hurts.It is an eye opening experience.

My new revolver is in its mandatory 10 Ca. wait period. Apparantly it must be quarantined to make sure it wont randomly commit crimes!
Anyway, I don't really know what I have bought. There is not much info out on them. I guess they only made them for a year ('99). Kind of a modernized Dectective Special. Does anyone here have any experience with them? Oh, I was half serious about the bear thing. I have an encounter or two every summer at Lake Tahoe. (funny how the city people embrace conservitive values when a bear absconds with their Ben and Jerries right of the kitchen freezer. True story)
All feed back good and bad would be appreciated. Oh, I got it for 530$ otd. I think I did ok.

Just make sure you really need a big dot tritium....cutting up classic Colts is as much of a crime as classic Smiths.

An dats da troot! More so in this limited edition. If you put a nite sight on it and use it at night, hopefully your first shot dooes the trick. You will be blind after first shot. "Don't cut up that Colt my friend, pass it over to me" Song goes something like that.

I like the Colt Magnum Carry. Here's mine...

I've gone through a few grips. Presently I have Sile Compacs on it. They are similar to the Pachmayr compacs, but seem to be a bit thinner. The Colt is a whole lot of whoop a__ in a little package. As you would suspect the gun is a handful with 357 mags. I find it's comparable to shooting a steel J frame 357. I prefer the S&W trigger, and the Colt does have some sharp edges to it. They could be smoothed out, but I'm not willing to modify the gun due to its collectibility. Of course the extra round is really nice, and probably represents its most appealling feature as compared to a S&W. Additionally the ejection rod is longer than a J frame snub, and I think the cylinder release may be a bit easier for us lefties. Speedloaders can be an issue with the little Colt, but I tend to carry a Bianchi speed strip anyway. At one point I was under the impression the Colt weighed less than my 60-10 J frame, but that isn't true. The Colt weighs 710 grams empty and the 60-10 weighs 685 grams empty. The Colt is almost the exact same weight as an empty 3913. I find it too heavy to pocket carry. It will fit in most (if not all) Detective Special holsters.

I am looking for a boot grip for this thing. Material is not to much of an issue, but I don't like the looks of laminates. Or funky colors! Any ideas?

Will original DS grips fit? They are easy to shoot with and nice looking...boot grips might be a little small for 357s...

I found some rosewood and some ivory corian grips on line. Ivory for under dress shirts. About recoil and boot grips, I am a farmer from northern California and quite possibly the toughest man alive. I will probably just take the grips off, heat the the backstrap till it glows and bang away with Buffaloe Bore 180's. (Or I could just have small hands.) Thanks,

Badger boot grips from grips for guns. I'll give a report and try to post a photo.....I get the gun out of Ca. quarintine tomorrow. I'll throw in a range report for free!
