Hi Group,

I heard of a private rifle club in Elgin IL called the Elgin Rifle Club or similar. Are there any members here on the forums that can tell me a bit about that club?

There used to be a club north of Elgin (in Carpentersville) called the Fox Valley Rifle Range. It's been closed for a good ten years or so. I'm not aware of any others in the area and I don't live too far from there; it's pretty well developed nowadays.

The Illinois State Rifle Association has a range near Keewanee, IL. Quite a bit farther west is the TriCounty Gun Club, they have rifla and handgun ranges, and trapshooting. No indoor shooting facilities, however. In Rockford, Pine Tree Pistol Club has an indoor range, but no outdoor. The Northern Illinois Rifle and Pistol Club has an outdoor range. Up near Volo, Northbrook has a very extensive range and clubhouse. These are all possibilities. Tri County has memberships available, I don't know about the others.

It is/was a pistol club in a small building off of Route 20. I shot there once, some 10 years ago but cannot say if it still exists. The trophies I saw were impressive.

I'm a member here: CCKC

The web page is pretty self explanatory. the others mentioned by the other posters are ok too, but some are shotgun only.

The ISRA Range is near Chatsworth and Kankakee IL. Nice place but a bit of a drive.

I know this post is long dead but after the arrogant phone call I received from a representative of THE ELGIN GUN CLUB I just had to post a reply here as it is disturbing to say the least how I was treated during the conversation I had with this man over finding out some information on enrolling my youngest son into a club as he is very much taken with shooting, he is 9 years old and has been shooting since 5 years old and has the knowledge, responsibility and experience as any 20 year old... this said I was told that this is a serious target shooting club and he assured me that although I seem to have every confidence in my son he would not fit the bill and could not possibly have the required stature to be competitive with the other members ... I got the can he even hold a gun and he would have to be able to lay on the ground and be able to shoot from that position which is so very demanding as well as being expected to be able to shoot a silver dollar at 50 yds...lol...***! "He can hit bottle caps at 25 yds with iron sites all day long" ... I stopped him right there and said Are you serious, He bid me a farewell and goodnight so needless to say I'm so very glad to find out about them now rather than latter...too bad too as Preston would have put the instructor to shame anyway....lol I have a call in to the St Charles gun club and expect to join him up there anyway as there seem to be much more activates available thru their organization!

Elgin Rifle Club

Hi Chris,

I contacted them by phone. There is an enrollment period. I'm going to a monthly meeting to request a "sponser" and ask for membership. Fees seem very reasonable. I gather it is in a large rm, no range booths just a firing line.

If it is a satisfactory range, the fees, membership activities, etc. I will request an application.
