Years back, I owned a Walther PPK/S (1971 vintage) ... It was an exquisite firearm, but had the nastiest recoil I ever experienced. That little .380 would bite the web of my shooting hand like an angry dog, so much so that the Walther became a safe queen and was eventually sold for something more practical.

I thoroughly enjoyed the very proper British firearms expert breaking out a Ruger .44 Mag single action. I suspect that he would have been pleased to see Harry Callahan and his 29 nearly a decade after Bond's debut.

Be fair, in comparison to a .25 the 7.65 Browning is a monster.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post them of my latest .32 purchase. It definitely comes under the heading of "guns that make no sense".
