A friend sent me this photo but he told me he had taken these off a 1961 Gen 2 Python.
He wanted to know what these are selling for these days?
He had soaked them in alcohol over night to clean the years of dirt/oil and grime off. First time I had heard this method.

I'm not a Colt guy so I really couldn't offer him up a value on these.

What do you Colt/Grip guys have to say?

Thanks in advance for any and all information.

I would estimate them at about $175 because of wear on wood and medallions. I sold several pairs in excellent condition a few years ago starting at $275.

OMM grips with the silver medallions but same shape and fit are only a little less and usually below $300.

I just sold a pair in Hillsville va for $180. Decent but with a couple dings on the back strap and no screw.

The apparent condition is the downside - looks as though little original finish remains. However, they would still bring $150 on GunBroker. A couple of years ago I sold a pair of Gen 2s in relatively nice condition, except for a small broken corner, for $200. In prime condition, a pair of Gen 2s with original gold medallions (for the Python) would easily being at least $300. You can about double that for a pair of Gen 1s (full checkered). About a year ago I bought a pair of Gen 3s in about 95% condition for $125, and I thought that was an excellent buy.

25 years ago, many gun shops would put Python grips in their "odds and ends" box on the counter and sell a nice pair for $5-$10.

Was at the local gun show today. I found one pair of Colt Gen 1 target stocks (silver medallion), fairly heavily worn (diamonds in checkering rounded), not much finish left, for $300. Could have been restored, I guess, but then they are restored grips.

Could someone please remind me what the difference is between the Gen.2 and Gen. 3?

To me, it seems like all the factory wood Python grips have increased in value pretty dramatically in the last 5 years. I guess this parallels the increase in the Pythons themselves.

The Colt Gen 1 grips are entirely checkered. Gen 2 grips have a semi-circular checkering border wrapped around the Colt medallion. Gen 3 grips has a straight checkering border below the Colt medallion. Only those for the Python used gold medallions, for other models, silver medallions were used.
