So ... my friend who served 40 years in the Marines decided to sell his M1 Garand. Lord knows I don't need an M1 Garand, but it's mine now!

Looks like he set you up with a nice one, he is a good friend by the looks of things.

I let a friend shoot one of mine at a range many years ago, he couldn’t believe how accurate the gun was.
I know a young fella, in the group I deer hunt with, who uses one. A bit heavy for me to tote through the woods, but I wouldn’t feel disadvantaged otherwise.

You're right, you don't need an M1! They tend to breed a bit. Picking another one up as a wedding gift for my brother, and I'm fighting pretty hard to not toss another M1 in for myself when I put in the papers.

I lucked into a couple deals, one in 2012 or so, another in 2015, where I was able to buy about as much M2 ball as I could at an average of $.30/rd. I shoot my M1 a fair bit, and I'm down to my last few cans which really makes me nervous. A range day without a Garand really isn't a range day I care to be a part of.

M1 Garand vs. a Com-Bloc M44 Nagant.

Nice Korean War match-up there.

Nice rifle. I only own one now, have a friend that has 28 of them. He and I made a pilgrimage every year to the CMP North Store for quite a few years. Great place to visit if in the area.
