Looks like it received a parkerized refinish perhaps for WWII service by the Manila Odrnance Dept since almost all the Colt 1909s spent their entire service life in the Philippines. Here's another Colt 1909 with a similar finish.

Also got a box of 20 rounds of blank cartridges made at the Frankford Arsenal. Apparently the blanks were used to accustom Cavalry horses to the sound of gunfire.

Nice revolver. I also have one. Mine however has been rebarreled with a Colt New Service barrel and the cylinder latch replaced. My cylinder is not marked R.A.C. as your is, so it may have been replaced also. I shoot my 1909 several times a year. I duplicate the War Department loading that they required for the M1909. That was a 250 grain bullet at 750 FPS. I use 5.6 Grains of Bullseye to accomplish this.

Never have seen it before, what is it? Cowboy loads? I have never shot factory loads out of my 25 or the Colt 1909. I figure if the 250 grain bullet moving at 750 FPS was good enough for the War Department, then it should be good for me too. Remember they were stopping hopped up warriors with this load..........

Two boxes ( 100 rds) of 250 gr lead flat nose lead. boxes are repro ones, Loose bag of 100 rds of 240 Gr RNL . As noted these are light loads seller used in his 1873 Colt SAA and Winchester 1873.

Are they factory loadings or reloads? Hopefully factory loads. I usually tear down other folks reloads and reuse the components. Only a few folks that I trust their reloads.

Remembered that I had another good article on the 1909. It is in the 1990 Guns Digest. The article is Colt's 1909 Military Revolver by John Malloy. It is a good read.

All factory loads; will post range report.

Took the revolver out to a friend's range and shot some 40 rounds and the old Warhorse performed flawlessly and was spot on every time. Yes, tight as a drum and a real hoot to shoot! Since this range has only metal targets no photos but next time will have photos of paper targets at another range. Used this modern factory loaded 45 LC ammo shown earlier in this thread.
