I shot my Walther CCP for the first time today.

Got it off GB at what I considered a fair price. This one is the M1 model, has the factory recall dot marked on it, so no problem there.

The CCP is a little different in that it has a gas piston in it, like the HK P7 series of pistols. It's supposed to reduce recoil in a small and light gun, and in the case of the CCP, I'd say that it works.

The down side is that after reading the owner's manual, disassembly will make taking down a Ruger Mk1 pistol look like a walk in the park. The M2 variant addressed that issue. When the time comes to field strip it, I'll be checking out YouTube for informative videos.

Anyway, 25 shots. 5 rounds at a time, no FTF/FTE, although the slide didn't lock back after the 1st five shots, no issues after that. CCI Lawman 124gr FMJ at 25 feet indoors.

Trigger is crisp and with a quick reset. Once I got the hang of it I dialed it in pretty well.

Happy with this pistol

What other small, polymer, 9mm pistols have you shot for recoil comparison? I've owned/tried several and I have established a pecking order in terms of felt recoil. Oddly enough the winner in that respect is not the gun I shoot the best.

I just CANNOT be the only kid who grew up in the 80’s that sees a big red flag (or hockey jersey) with an ominous gold hammer and sickle every single time I see or hear about the Walther CCP. :D I cannot imagine that nobody in their entire marketing management department didn’t at least say “ummm guys... anyone else think?”

Sorry, I’m not trying to take away from your review. I would like to try shots from this pistol myself. My EDC is the PPQm2. It’s been a fine and dead-nuts reliable handgun.

I had a Ruger LC9S at one point, and I think that the Walther has less recoil. Plus a better trigger, and feels better in my hand.

Now, compared to the 3913NL or CS9, the Walther loses, but for what it is, it's pretty good.

JMHO YMMV

Truth right there.

I was 13 when "The Miracle on Ice" happened.

And of course... "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"

I still have a LC9s, but I don't like the recoil at all, I think the narrow backstrap and my bony hands don't go well together. Even a Hogue doesn't help much. The Kahr CW9 is much kinder to my hands. The PPS M2 is surprisingly gentle given its grip shape, and its trigger is ideal for me. I shoot the PPS M2 very well. I also bought a Remington R51 (the post recall version) as a curiosity and the recoil impulse on that is "different", very straight back.

I decided not to get a CCP because of the adventures with disassembly. Mind you, it cannot be any worse than the R51 or putting back together any of my Grand Power pistols.

Congratulations. I'm a fan of Walther pistols, especially the classics like the PP, PPK, TPH, and P5, but I like their newer polymer-framed pistols like the P99, PPQ, and CCP.

I still wish that Walther had made an entry in the .380 ACP Pocket Pistol market years back, I'll bet they'd have come out with something really classy.

I should have grabbed one of the Creed models they had on clearance a year ago. Just to give one a twirl. They had some crazy low prices on those.

I've said this exact statement about 20 times. I've never owned a Walther pistol let alone shot one. I've only heard good things this far!!

They do have a version of the CCP in .380. Same style and design, looks like the same dimensions as the 9, too. Since I bought a PPS instead not long ago, maybe I'll try this .380 next.... :D

This is my girl's favorite centerfire. The disassembly is difficult, enough so that had I known more about it, we could've looked for the M2. Thankfully, as we're getting older, she's learning to appreciate rimfire, so P22 does that duty. I only wish they were the same trigger type.
The pistol does feel good in the hand- They got the ergonomics right. Hers is a bit ammo sensitive, though. I stick with 124 NATO and it seems to run ok. It's a little iffy with the lighter stuff.

I had one, got it for $299. It's an ok pistol, nothing great. Reliable, but I didn't care for the grip, and it's not changeable like the P99.

I ended up selling it for what I paid for it. The P99AS is a much better pistol IMHO. Plus, it's totally ambidextrous, for us southpaw types.
