9mm 1911??? What? Thats crazy talk! Why???

To each his own and I’m not judging but the 1911’s in my safe are all .45’s
I like that they all share the same magazines and consider 1911’s in any other caliber to be ridiculous.

There are plenty of other iconic 9mm pistols to enjoy.

So just say no to 9mm 1911’s.

Again I’m not judging but you asked for opinions.

I have a Ruger SR1911 9mm. It's the most accurate pistol I've ever shot. I love it.
Plus I don't buy all these different calibers. If I pick up a pistol I have plenty of 9 to choose from.
I own 9mm 22lr and I have a Ruger gp100 in .357 Magnum.

I have a Colt Commander in 9mm.

Also a Springfield Armory EMP in 9mm.

I have an STI Trojan in 9mm. It's great.

BUT, I think if you want to go with a 9mm 1911, the 38 Super is the better way to do it. The case is the same length as the 45 Auto and the straight-walled design is also the same.

My 38 super 1911s are more reliable than 9mm. The magazines especially!

Glad you got something you really like, OP. :) Cool.

Literally the only reason I didn't pursue 1911/9MM is because I have a ton of 1911/.45 mags and was concerned that I might mix a mag in with the wrong group. Have shot many (1911/9mm) with a good experience.

I understand why they do it, but it's a shame that the major manufacturers of the 1911 type pistols these days don't take a clue from Star and offer a variant in 9mm that is scaled around the 9mm round. If you have had the pleasure of handling a Star Model B you will know what I mean.

I like my 1948 Colt Super .38 because, well, because it is a Super .38. But a .45 frame and slide sized Government Model or Commander in 9mm ? Meh....

I'm a 1911 guy from way back. To me the only two calibers for a proper 1911 are .45acp and .38 Super. I have plenty of both. :D
I always considered a 9mm 1911 to be pure blasphemy!
However, not long ago as part of another deal, I ended up with 4 brand new 9mm 1911 magazines. So now I'm kinda thinking why not? I'm open to it if the right deal comes along.

I've actually seen the Colt used by Tom Selleck on the show. Evidently he purchased it and has since donated it to the NRA's National Firearm Museum. The actual main prop from the show; Colt MKIV/Series 70 Government Model, 9×19mm Parabellum.

It is in remarkably good condition for a TV show prop, then again, it was not featured in that many episodes.

I thought the same thing when I first saw it. Compare that to the Model 19 used by Danny Glover in the Lethal Weapon movies. Or ,even better, the Beretta 92F used by Mel Gibson in the first movie and Bruce Willis in Die Hard. Those two handguns saw some hard usage. The extended slide release on the Beretta was installed for Willis because he is a southpaw.

Though much smaller for the CCW market the Kimber Micro 9 is an example of a 1911 designed around the 9mm and also the Sig alternative. Ive had several Star model Bs and though they are there own thing nevertheless they are heavy steel guns that are about the same size as a traditional 9mm 1911. Parts and magazine availability can get ridiculous with those Star pistols so I stick to the traditional 1911 design. I never had a Star BM however could never get into one because the new line of carry 9mms make the BM completely obsolete. You can find them ridiculously cheap though on the used surplus market which makes them attractive as long as the price is right.

Nowlin Sr. did not build many complete pistols, so when I found a six inch 9mm Challenger, I just bought it. It is so smooth that any of my Swiss P210s seem crude. It is a fantastic shooter and a perfect gun when good shooting results count!
