Walther CCP M2+ Range Report - New Replacement
This is the replacement pistol I got from Walther after I sent my original CCP M2+ in for repair. I don't know why they deemed the original unrepairable, but here's the replacement.
25 shots, 5 - 5 round strings. No FTF/FTE. This pistol is ammo sensitive. It doesn't like the 124gr Freedom Munitions FMJ load at all. It does like the Norna 115gr FMJ load, which is a hotter load than the Freedom Munitions one.
25 feet, indoors, 2 hand hold.
I'm happy with it.

Just curious; does the trigger area heat up after a somewhat sustained firing? I have read in a review somewhere that it get quite warm. I looked at the CCP, but opted for the PPS M2. Walther makes nice guns. What was the reason you sent the gun back to Walther?

I need to get my CCP M1 back to the range but I agree, great little pistol. I forget what the difference is between the M1 and M2 but it has something to do with take down IIRC and I never take it down, I can clean it just fine in one piece, so I don't worry about it. I dislike polymer pistols as a rule, not crazy about striker fired guns, either, but this package came to me from a friend and when I saw it didn't have a tricky little "safety trigger" I decided I liked it.
Now that you know it's good at 25 feet why don't you point shoot with it at closer ranges? That's where the rubber meets the road in personal defense, not at 25 feet but at 15 feet or less.

I haven't shot it enough for the trigger area to warm up.
I sent the original back since it would not feed a full mag without jamming. Changed mags, ammo, no difference. Would not fire reliably.
They sent a new pistol, no explanation given.
So far, so good.

Yes, the takedown of the M2 is much simpler than the M1.
I'll have to try close in, and see what JHP defense loads it likes.

Great shooting by you for a 1) new to you gun 2) shooting 2 hand without any rest spot 3) a new gun that you had no idea what ammo it liked 4) a gun that probably has not self smoothed all the surfaces in the trigger mechanism. Is that grip rubberized. Is it something you can remove and put on any other types of grips (I wouldn't, but just curious). Sounds like Walther found something they could not fix or had the parts for. Congrats!!

Thank you. No rubberized grips, it's a molded polymer lower. But the feel in my hand is natural and the POI is right there.
I would have liked to know the reason for the replacement. You may be right, if parts aren't available, easier to replace, and keep the customer happy.
Walther USA is known for their customer service.

Does the Freedom Munitions load fail to feed or fail to extract?

Both.
The CCP is odd in that it has a gas piston. The recoil level is nil.
After the 1st shot, it will not eject the spent round or load a fresh one. You have the manually rack the slide to eject and reload.
The 124gr Freedom Munitions load is pretty mild IMHO, and it must not be enough to cycle the CCP.
The pistol seems to like hotter ammo. The 115gr Norma seems to be the sweet spot.
OTOH my 469 loves the 124gr FM load, go figure.
I have not tried it with defensive loads yet. It's not a CCW piece for me, but i'll be curious to see how it performs.

That gun absolutely SHINES in .380 caliber. Just sayin'', for those who are a bit more recoil sensitive.

The recoil with the 9mm FMJ is pretty much nil.
I haven't tried it with defensive loads yet.

My lady's CCP is a great little pistol- very comfortable to shoot.
It is, however ammo-sensitive, as well. It seems that "German Engineering," in this day and age, should be able to produce a pistol that shoots almost anything.
Hers is the M1, and Walther should've sent everyone that bought one a new pistol to make up for the stupidity of the disassembly process.
