I found a pile of M1 Carbines today.

I ran into a former co-worker today at a local gun store. He mentioned his friend's grandfather had passed away, and the man's gun collection was being sold off. I got an invitation to check them out this evening.

There were twenty long guns and three pistols left. When I asked about the M1 Carbines the man had owned, six came out of a safe and were placed on a table for me. I then got to see the rest of the guns. This is what I came home with.

The Colt AR15 is an original condition SP1 from 1978. The M1 next to it is Quality Hardware. The other two are National Postal Meter guns. Only one of them, a National Postal Meter, is import marked.

After I bought the three M1 rifles he gave me 300 rounds of ammo for free. To entice me to buy the Colt, he offered to throw in 500 rounds of .223.

The Colt was a grand, and the M1 carbines were $500 each. This family has lots of money, but they wanted the guns gone. I doubt I'll ever come across another deal like this one.

A man from an area gun store arrived just after I left, and he bought everything left including a humongous gun safe.

That's the scenario we dream about, but
probably never happen upon unless you’re
in the business.

I’m still rather stunned by the entire event. When my former co-worker told me they were selling all this stuff off just to get rid of it, I thought 1) the story has been blown out of proportion 2) if not, there’s no way anything worth having is left and 3) what does it matter because I don’t know this family and will never see these guns.

Three hours later and there I was sorting through a half dozen M1 carbines. I couldn’t believe it. I seem to get lucky with guns, but I doubt I’ll ever surpass this.

The kind of thing that come around once in a life time, and you did REALLY WELL. At 500 each for M-1 carbines I would have bought a dump truck load of them.
Holy cow... An M-1 carbine parts gun that not all there will bring that much or more.
Never thought I would see the day, that Carbines would sell for what they are bringing these days, and Im not saying that they are worth what they are bringing, but I guess they are worth what people will pay.

Again.... Holy cow, you scored big time.

You should be looking over your shoulder for the police...you should be charged with felony theft for the great prices you got on those firearms.

The Colt SP-1 is an easy $1500-$1800 in most areas and the Carbines are an easy $1200-$1500 as well.

Most excellent transaction!

If the second dealer got the rest of the guns at similar prices, they'll get a 100-150% markup for resale. (No criticism of the OP, they offered and you accepted. :) ).

That's what I was thinking. Realistically he probably paid about the same amount the gun shop would have bought them for.

First off, congratulations on your purchases! That particular AR-15 would be the only style I would even consider purchasing if I actually did get one. Weird how the family "wanted them gone"...

Don't think that's uncommon. Folks use to bring/drop off guns at my Dad's Dept. to get rid of them.

Lots of folks take them to Gun Shops and sell them for pennies on the dollar.

Got my Reg Magnum when the wife told her husband to get rid of his Grandfather's .357 RM from 1939!

Estate sales are interesting. A friend was evolved with one, recovering a very large collection of firearms and arranging a sale. I think maybe 50 total. Half of those were AK-47's. They all went to another friend of mine who is a local dealer. Unbelievable cashe of collectable firearms sold in one lot.

This is literally the first AR15 I’ve owned. I’ve always admired them for their capabilities at work having carried them extensively during manhunts and standoffs, but they just do nothing for me. But this particular model is a keeper. And it doesn’t hurt that they pull near two grand on Gunbroker.

Folks would regularly turn in dead grandpa’s guns and ammo to our PD. During a previous administration, I was given all the ammo that was turned in that way. That was real fun while it lasted. And I have just enough immaturity to laugh every time I scored a box of Rustless Peters.

Three M1 carbines, some high end M1As, nicer variety AK47s, SKSs, 03A3s, a host of mags, bayonets, lots of ammo, huge gun safe, and some handguns.

I only took $2500 with me, and I’m glad I didn’t take more although I kind of wish I had.

Oh my! I would have been in for a nice Chinese SKS, M1 carbine, and maybe an 03A3.:D
