45 Auto Rim long gun

I have never heard of or seen one. I suppose you could modify the extractor of a standard .45 ACP semiauto carbine but haven’t heard of anyone trying that, given how uncommon AR ammo is.

None of which I am aware.

If you started with a lever action in 45 long Colt and used a lifter for the 45 Cowboy Special, and modified the chamber, you might get something working.

What do you have in mind?

Assuming you start with a 45colt rifle if you want to shoot shorter ammo use Schofield or c45s brass. Im planning to get my 45colt 1873 uberti rechambered to 45acp next year. My 1894s and ubertis run Schofield fine but c45s are too short without lifter modifications. As i have thousands more srp than lpp converting a rifle I already own to a 45acp that uses small primers is half the cost of buying another cas lever gun in 38 spcl.

Once upon a time I had an acquaintance who took a bolt action .410 shotgun and rebarreled it to .45 Colt. His first version used a detachable box magazine and fed rounds poorly. He did a second gun that had a tubular magazine and it worked much better. He also had a Rossi 92 .357 magnum he was attempting to rebarrel to .22 Remington Jet.

American Rifleman many decades ago had an article on a M92 winchester that had been converted to .45ACP.

I am convinced that a lever gun in .45, .40 or 9mm would be a rock solid seller in locales that are restricted on detatchable mags.

I have a Marlin Camp 45. The magazine wouldn't accept the ammo's rim.

I often shoot my Winchester/Rossi Model 92's and Marlin 1984 Cowboy Special (All chambered in 45 Colt) with 45 S&W Schofield.

Interesting you brought this subject up. A couple of months ago I was looking through the Guns International site. There was a Martini Cadet that was chambered in 45 AR. Was set up like their 22LR target rifles. Unfortunately someone beat me to it. Awhile back, I thought of getting a 45 AR barrel for my Contender carbine, but ended up selling it. May try it sometime in the future....the reason...a gun shop went out of business several years ago and I bought 1000 45 AR new brass cases....so might as well have a long gun to go with my M25-2 and 1917.

I can’t really think of any good reason to choose 45 AR over numerous other options. 45 AR is 100x less common than 45 ACP. It wouldn’t make a very good rifle round. Round nose FMJ rounds would be a no go with a lever action. Additionally 45 Colt is a better cartridge, cheaper, and has numerous guns available already. The market for 45 Colt lever actions isn’t that big to begin with. The market for a 45 AR rifle wouldn’t even be a dozen people.

Mec Tech’s 1911 carbine conversion has satisfied my desire for a carbine companion to my .45 pistols. Just my own take here, but I’m a bit dubious about the practicality of .45 Auto Rim, mainly because of the scarcity of brass and ammo. That said, I do have a commercial 1917 that I’ve resigned to expecting to only shoot .45acp ammo out of.

In the process of having my Uberti 1873 converted from 45colt to 45acp right now. Not sure what the magazine capacity will wind up being. Should hold more rounds than 45 colt. Not doing it for firepower though, doing it to shoot small primer 45acp loads. I have 8000 srp but only 3000 lpp. No spp.

That sounds really, really neat: I hope you'll consider doing a thread on the finished product, because I suspect a lot of the gun guys here would find it interesting. :)

Personally I see no reason. 45 Colt is common, so is 44 WCF. Either one is great in a lever action rifle or a revolver.
