Ordering 1st Rimfire Rifle

Getting excited. rder is in for my first rimfire rifle. Believing as I do that the value of a new Smith, Ruger or CZ rfle will go down as soon as it fired I have set my sites higher. Not sky high but high enough.


That has led my to consider Anshutz. Like a good S&W or Colt revolver the value of an Anschultz should hold or go higher. Fortunately a nearby Gunsmith is becoming an authorized dealer at this time.

He is ordering a Anschutz 64 MPR Walnut Stock with a 25.5" barrel and what I think is a 20" Silloette barrel which will be better for bench work at the 100 yard range.

I really am not looking for pats on the back but any comments about my choice are welcomed. That is why I am posting this thread.

The Anschutz is a beautiful rifle and I am sure it will suit you well for many years.

I have a CZ 455 that I am very happy with. If you like the versatility of changing barrels and stocks as well as the original lower cost, CZ might be another option for you.
 
We have a Anschultz (Kadet) in the family. Not that well know but its a good shooter.

My wife ordered extra 10 round magazines for $80 a pop rather expensive and hard to find.

From what my wife told me the lowest Anschultz mags she has seen are at $60 per. Some others are much higher!
 
I'd be excited about it, too.

Please give us a range report after you've tested it thoroughly.

I am jealous! Anschutz makes phenomenal rifles and so long as you're wanting a target gun for bench shooting, you perhaps could have done no finer. I LOVE rimfire target shooting. Relaxing and great fun. I have a CZ-452 outfitted with European aperture target sights and it makes for a classy, timeless setup that's always a joy. I love how even top shelf target ammo is about the same price as decent quality centerfire handgun ammo.

You did amazing OP and I agree on the value. It will be an heirloom quality piece that will have Hugh resale if you ever want to sell it. Congrats!
 
A BEAUTY NO DOUBT.

As always much depends on your plans for it. FOR ME an accurate 22 LR handgun went a long way, & an accurate 22 mag bolt, covered the rest. SURE a 22 lr lever & semi are fun, but the 22mag gives an you an edge on range & stopping power on smaller game.
 
Good for you. This is one model you can shoot and enjoy plus it will retain value and prove an good investment. With hindsight I wish I would have invested in more higher end models to recoup more down the road. Good luck with your scores.
 
No disrespect, just thinking I wouldn't drop a lot of coin on a.22. I too am currently without a .22 rifle at the time, and steadily pass up purchasing one due to putting the funds toward ,...more desirable guns..., and would think that even though the value may hold, finding a buyer for a high priced .22 may be difficult. I had a browning that valued at $2500 that I let go for a new 686 and a g17 just because while many wanted it, they just could cough up the money . If it was a same grade 12 gauge, they would have beat my door down.
So now I'm thinking a pawn shop Winchester or such with a $125 price tag, and a little fun reshaping and finishing the stocks will be my next .22

With all the coin I dropped on my tackdriver 10/22 , its still a 10/22.
I could/should have just bought the Anschutz.

You made an excellent choice. I had 2, both a 54 heavy barrel match rifle (now in my grandson's possession) and a 64 sporter model. The accuracy is legendary, with wonderful triggers. Be sure to put a quality scope on it, it deserves it.
 
You will never regret buying an Anschutz. I have two; the accuracy is frankly off the charts. Yes, they cost more, but I have so pleased over the years that that cost is a non-issue. Now in my experience, don't expect a butter smooth action.The tolences and build quality translate into accuracy. That being said, I have never had any issues during or after extended shooting sessions with dirty .22 ammo. The one you are loooking at is a great bench gun. Do it.

I own a 1517 MPR it is one of my favorite rifles.
I wouldn't knock the CZ's much as they are very fine shooters
Your going to really like the trigger on that gun.
After a few shots that is.....you'll see

You can hit anything with it no target is too small and it's a wonderful feeling.
I've had mine since just after the 17 HMR came out ......so a long time.

Good choice..... but FWIW I've become a huge CZ fan over the past decade.

Many years ago I shot on both High School and College Rifle Teams.

But got to say for anything short of major competition a CZ 452 or 453 rimfire is the best "bang for the buck" going...... got my first in 2011..... a 452FS/mannlicher in .22magnum for a Penn's Woods varmint rifle..... have since added several more in .22lr and .17hmr..... as well as a couple 527s in .223/5.56.

Rimfires are all in the $360-$500 range.......most will give .25-.5 inch groups at 50 yds and close to MOA at 100.

My best groups off the bench with my 452 .22 mag have been in the .8-.9 at 100 with a Leupold 1-4x20....... the gun generally shoots "under the heavy crosshairs" of its scope ( needed in a woods gun) which equates to 1.25-1.5" groups.

The Anschutz 64 is a top shelf rifle you'll be pleased with it. A couple of years ago I had a hankerin' for a really nice target .22 rifle and the 64 was in my top choices. I decided to go with a Winchester 52c simply because of the collectability, a 52c in excellent condition is in the same price range as the Anschutz I just happened to find a 52c with a whole bunch of goodies to go along with it.

A couple of targets. Both 30 shots @25 yards, one bench rested and the other offhand. Eley Target for one, SK Jagd for the other. I find that after a range trip with the Anschutz, the birds are singing, the sky is bluer; and I am less likely to throw something at the TV during the evening news.
