A good friend and fine gun dealer contacted me recently about this 1899. He knows what I like and I have bought several beauties from him in the past. It fits perfectly in my collection of Savages.

I believe this rifle was originally marketed as the Model 1899 Deluxe. It incorporated many desirable features that were either featured on other guns or available on special order. It was Savage's method of introducing their newest cartridge - the .250-3000 Savage.

Features that were incorporated in this model are:
Perch belly stock
Checked wide pistol grip
Pistol grip cap
Checked schnabel fore end
Checked trigger
Tapered featherweight barrel 22"
Rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation
Beaded blade front sight
Bright blue receiver
Metal butt plate
Takedown feature
And of course....chambered in .250-3000

I believe some of the features were dropped after WWI like the checked trigger and perch belly stock.

This rifle is in excellent original untouched condition.

I am sure there are nicer ones out there of this vintage, but this one is the nicest I have ever handled.

I would rather have a honest gun that owner took care of than a safe queen. I wanted a Sav 99 straight stock carbine in 250/3000 for years.
Some else always got in the way. Even though I wanted carbine I had chance to pick up a 99EG in 250/3000 very nice but not mint, also D&T for scope. Ist gun I paid top dollar for in 50yrs.

That is a nice looking 99, I have its mate in the safe, 250-3000 from 1915. It was rescued from a pawn shop in terrible condition. After I got the black off the stock from decades of what must have been motor oil, and used motor oil at that, It has figure in the walnut. the old gal will shoot about 3- 4 inches at the old 100 yard mark and I take her to the whitetail woods on occasions. These actions must have required a lot of hand fitting, because mine is very tight. enjoy, your looks great.

found one of these (.250-3000) in a barn few weeks ago. condition was so bad, i left it there

I have a soft spot for Savages having grown up in Utica. I'll carry this 1899 a few times this deer season. Here are a few other Utica Savages.

Left to right:
1899 Deluxe (.250-3000)
99T (.303)
29-A (.22)
6-A (.22)
Fox Sterlingworth (16 ga)

What a beautiful rifle! What great workmanship for a factory rifle. You have to hand it to those craftsman/artists from that era.

This carbine is chambered in .30 WCF, made in 1909. It has the wear marks on the stock from sitting on a cantle for many hours. It belonged to a local that would go into Mexico to bring back bail jumpers. The carbine is in 30-30, easy to find ammo in Mexico.

Love those 99's. Currently own one of the second run .250 Savages made in Westfield. Straight grip and thumb safety. Aluminum cartridge counter. Reading up on this version i learned that it was the only .250 99 with a rifling twist intended for 100 grain bullets. Nice gun.

Funny this just came up. I saw one in a gun store last week that was a .250-3000. Wasn't quite as nice as yours and they wanted like $799. Too rich for my blood. Would be a neat gun to have though.

Rosewood

1 Have 2 , DOM 1912 .250 and a DOM 1955 .300 rifle. they are the perfect hunting rifle with 3 built in safeties, quality machine work. My 1912 rifle is as above in 95%. I LOVE Win/Marlin and have a few but savage was the top dog in hunting rifles for North American game.

Those are neat old rifles and the 250-3000 ones seem to be the most desirable. Fantastic example you have OP

Question: Is this statement true?

I would think a Model 1899 in .32 - 40 or .38 - 55 would be more desirable than one in .250 - 3000. This is my guess, but it by no means implies that my assertion is correct.

Gorgeous! Yours is only the second one of those that I've seen. Mine was the first, and I had to have it. I love the little 250/3000. Mine is also a 1915 and virtually identical to yours. Guess we know now there are two good ones out there. Here's mine:

Mentioned in the other post about the exact same year and model of 1899 I shot for a few years. First off nobody told Savage that takedown rifles were supposed to be less accurate than solid frame guns. I shot my friends tang sighted twin to yours at several competitions and its accuracy was awe inspiring. Just before I started losing my ability to focus my eyes well, I shot next to a well-known rifleman and hunter who was using a new Remington 700 titanium in 300 Winchester Magnum caliber and topped with a 3x9 Leupold scope. When going downrange to check targets after 3, 3 shot groups each, the 1899 Savage takedown had matched his group size once and bested him on the other 2 groups. Nice hunting tool for sure.

Wow, that is something else. A real time capsule. Beautiful condition, that would be hard to pass up even if you weren't a fan of Savages.

Wow! So nice!

I'd love to inspect that rifle in person.

What a great caliber for the avid handloader and a deer getter to boot!

I'd love to have a safe full of Savage 99s, in all variations, in all chamberings. Only have a single mid-1950s example in .300 Savage.

The Savage Model 99 really speaks to me.
