For any who have read my GUN WORLD article on the Model 58 Classics, I talked with people from S&W recently and they tell me that my early blued gun was shipped with the small grips by mistake. Blued 58 Classics will be shipped with the same type of new magnas as the nickel gun in the article. The blued 58 Classics probably will not have the lanyard ring as on the gun I used in the article, which is a shame as I like it, though it precludes Ahrends grips which I like on these guns.

I have a couple of early model 58's. Hope you get the same pleasure from your "classic" that I get from my originals.

58 Classic

Yeah, I had both windows open at once and put it in the wrong one. I stuck a note on revolvers where it was and hopefully someone will switch it. Leroy

I haven't seen the article so I'll ask Leroy this question.
Does the 58 Classic have the same 4-screw sideplate as the 57 Classic? Of course neither model had a 4-screw sideplate the first time around???

Glad to see you posting on the Forum Leroy. I always enjoy your writing and continue to look forward to your next book and articles. All my best, Joe.

LeRoy, I always enjoy your writings. I have an older nickel 58 and it is first rate. In fact, I had Smith renickel it and now it is too pretty to shoot. I do have a new Classic M-25, nickel of course and it is also nice.

Agreed, I've also always been a fan of your writings! Your late 80's book Great combat handguns is still one of my favorites, any chance on a new version?

Thanks very much for the compliments. I have a new book for which I am reading the galleys right now. It's on world antiterrorist units--tactics, weapons, equipment, etc. so only a couple of S&W mentions unfortunately. I was at a writer's shoot two weeks ago to introduce us to the M&P15 .22, which is a great little carbine. In discussing the blued 58 Classic with some of the S&W staff who were there I have concluded I was sent a Model 58 built on the Model 22 of 1917 frame which is why it had the small grips and lanyard ring. It makes an interesting one of though.

Also glad to see you posting on the Forum and +1 to the previous comments. Leroy, have you continued to shoot your John Ross 500 much since your GunBlast test and article?

Hey Leroy, nice to see you on the Forum. I will look forward to reading your article on the Model 58. I am sure it will be entertaining and thorough as is every article you write. Thanks for the heads up!

Best regards,

Shawn

I do still shoot the Ross .500 and still like it. In fact, I'm off to the range in a couple of hours to do more tests on the S&W M&P15 .22 for articles and almost laid the Ross .500 out last night to take but decided since I have a couple of other .22 pistols to test to make this a .22 day. Leroy

A pleasure to have you post. Please post often, your thoughts are appreciated.

Leroy, Thanks for the response. The great part of this hobby is that all, from .22 to .500, are fun. I have 2 Ross 500's and enjoy them very much.
