...those who make thinly veiled assumptions and insult other people, or where they hail from, without actually coming out and saying what they really mean. When confronted, or put in their place, they run and hide. Or have others do their "dirty work". Some people need to "grow a set".

Just one of my pet peeves...

The Facts of Life

Gordy,
You raised a valid point in your original thread about the lack of courtesy when people email or PM you with a rather blunt "Where are you located?" I have sold a lot on GunBroker and ebay, and I also see such messages all the time. I just assume it relates to picking up an item or shipping costs that increase with distance.

I keep reading the post below by rburg from that thread, trying to figure out what offended you so drastically. I just can't see it.
Maybe if you a little more descriptive than this "Location: Right next to a S&W" you wouldn't get so many emails.

I agree, paranoia is a strange thing. I have no idea why people are afraid to list the state where they live, except if they're ashamed of it. Its not like they'll zero right in on you if you say "Florida". You could even live in RI and they wouldn't have a chance of finding you..

I think you are simply argumentative, and hunt a reason to be offended. Even though you have now added your location, the very form you chose invites argument- "New York...so bash away.."

Regarding your post above-
One of my pet peeves is people who automatically take a remark made on an internet forum in the worst possible context.
Another pet peeve is people who hang arond a forum they don't seem to like to pick a fight and stir up trouble.

Now, let me know if I need to grow a set, please.

Your PM to Barb was out of line. She is not speaking for rburg. She is doing her main job of policing The Lounge.

You seem to cycle through periods every couple of months where you are spoiling for a fight. I suggest you get another hobby.

So, we arrive at the bottom line-
If you want to be on this board, and enjoy it, have at it.
If you want to come here and pick fights with the members and the Mods over nothing, go someplace else.

Does any of that appear "thinly veiled"?

No, Lee, you make yourself very clear...THAT, I can respect.

Now, Lee, I guess you'll do what you have to do...and I'll have to live with it. But, firstly, thank you for re-posting rburg's comments which I took exception to.

Let's look at that...

"I agree, paranoia is a strange thing."

Paranoia? I don't see where in badam 0112's post it says anything about paranoia. Since I was the original poster, I could only assume that Mr. Burg was calling me paranoid...how he gets that from me posting about people who send e-mails asking "what's your location" with no reason why is beyond me.

Now, his next comment...

"I have no idea why people are afraid to list the state where they live, except if they're ashamed of it."

Ashamed of it? I've been on this board for five or six YEARS and have NEVER been shy about stating that I'm a life-long resident of NEW YORK STATE and I can say with some degree of certainty that Mr. Burg is probably aware of that.

Would he have made a statement like that if I were from a Southern state?

I highly doubt it. Let's not kid ourselves...pretty obvious attempt at yet another New York slam from a Southerner...

Now, Lee, trust me on this...I'm not "spoiling for a fight" with anybody...but I'm not the kind of person that stands there and takes unprovoked, underhanded jabs either. Maybe that's a New York trait, I don't know.

Obviously, you will take rburg's side, but to me, his remarks were just more of the ongoing New York bashing that seems to be the norm here.

Your board...you want to let it slide...that's your choice. I started that locked thread talking about one thing and rburg turned it into something else with his innuendos...yet he gets a free pass.

If that's how things are going to be run around here, and you decide to ban me for telling my side, then that's fine. Thank you for the opportunity to do so.

Have a nice weekend.

I think that is the point- zillions of people already know you are from NY, so why not simply put that for your location?
You deal in heavy steel, so it is logical to assume freight will matter.

Big deal- Dick slipped a slight dig in on NY. Somebody else will slip one in on KY.
I rib my AL buds all the time. MS and LA, too. I even dig at GA sometimes.
Yeah, life-altering, and worth major worrying.

I called it like I see it on the spoiling for a fight. Odd you get into so many if that is not the case. Most folks, most of the time, seem to avoid them.

So, we get back to the bottom line-
If you want to be on this board, and enjoy it, have at it.
If you want to come here and pick fights with the members and the Mods over nothing, go someplace else.

My last word on the subject.

If you want to come here and pick fights...

Let's be clear, I didn't pick this one, rburg did. And like I predicted, you're defending it.

No, it's not "life-altering", but the New York bashing is just getting old...I'm not the only one here who thinks so either.

There's obviously a double-standard in place here, so I'll see you later.

Delete my account.

Why the heck did rburg have to use Florida as his first example?
NOW you guys know I feal insulted, and I demand an apology.
'G Don't worry about it.
D.G.

Is it nice in New York this time of year? I hear the Adirondacks are beautiful.

Which are bigger, titans or giants?

.

New york??

Where's that? Is it north of Mason Dixon? Do you all have a post office???

All I got to say about this is ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being 4-0 would be really cool if they were all SEC opponents, but I wouldn't brag too much about beating Florida International or North Texas. Bama's fate will probably be decided in October. If they are undefeated in Oct and beat LSU on Nov 7, they have a good shot at being the national champs. I'll be rooting for the Hotty Toddy Rebs.

Your state is only where you live, it's not who you are as a person. I live in Illinois. Plenty to bash here. Chicago, Mayor Daley, Roland Burris, Dick Durbin, Land of Obama, ex Governor Blago AND the University of Illinois got beat like a drum by Ohio State 30-0. Saturday

It's like mixing a half gallon of ice cream with a half gallon of dog poop. Your gallon of mix is going to be overpowered by the poop, not the ice cream. This is like Illinois. Chicago overpowers the rest of the state. I'm from the southern part of the state and I realize there are many good folks in Cook county, but, sometimes the notorious overcomes the positive. Still, this doesn't describe who I am and I don't identify with the negative aspects just because I happen to live in Illinois.

Worth repeating. And it is reasonable to expect folks to occasionally make derogatory remarks about Illinois when they are relevant to the discussion at hand. Even moreso about MA and NY and NJ and HI and CA. Oops - I almost forgot MD. Bob's last sentence should be reread again.

BTW, I have a cousin who has been active in politics at a very low level in SC, but he says when he dies, he wants to be buried in Chicago. He won't be active in politics any more, but at least he'll still be able to vote.
