I'd like to thank those of you that offered advice on this project. I was ready to trade this great little revolver in for a 442/340 until I got the insight (and nerve) to cut the MIM hammer. It's SOooo much better now. I left just enough hammer stub to allow cocking and even decocking (with care!) but not enough to catch on a pocket liner, etc.
For anybody interested in details. I pulled the hammer out, marked it with tape and then used a dremel to cut from the first row of checkering on top to the tip of the web on the bottom. The resultant cut was very clean and only needed to be dressed up with a few minutes on a set of knife sharpening stones before getting a couple dabs of cold blue.
Here are some pics of the finished product. I'm back in love with this gun now.

Looks good.
I am not sure if you have seen the thread about the "plug" that is used to get rid of the lock. Then you will have made a good gun, perfect.

Thanks, yea, I'm not in love with the lock but then again, I'm not sure how much it bothers me either. I know people don't trust it but to be honest, I havn't seen allot of rock solid failure data. That said, I mostly collect/own pre-lock S&W's and only own this one with a lock. Saw 500's drill and tap lock but I'm leery of trying it on a scandium frame/$900 gun. I've seen some reference to another "plug" but haven't run across much info. I may end up pulling it if it turns out to be a clean and inexpensive mod . I'll do another search and see what turns up.
